Has anyone put the different types of filters and their respective tubing on the bench and flow tested them?..you know like they do heads and superchargers. Wouldn't this put some or all of this controversy to rest?

I'm thinking get the best flowing filter/tubing setup (bench tested) and put it where it doesn't get heat soaked. Then tune the damn car. Honestly, I don't even know what the controversy is. Maximum flow at the lowest temperature = maximum power potential...PERIOD!

The data I see here is rather empirical, disregarding many important variables as many of you have previously mentioned.

Now if my AFR has changed (and i bet it has) that is another variable. my STFT and LTFT are pretty close to 0 however (within 2% usually at WOT) so i'll assume the car has already learned any applicable adjustments.
This looks an awful lot like speculation and nothing like evidence. Pretty much the exact opposite of the point of this business.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

it may be a true fact, but the effort versus gain is huge. some (most) of us simply just do not care about 1-3 whp swings.

Must be the same bench, operator, settings etc.

    Like a point of AFR.

I still wanna know how you lose 100 cfm through a CAI vs open cone. lol

Colder air is better because it's denser.

The air coming from the fender on a 90* day is still going to be colder than the air coming from right about the crossover on the exhaust.

It's pretty simple...The colder the air the longer it takes for it to become warm/hot.

Dyno the car again with an external MAF and it won't be the same, I promise you.

Do you mean properly calibrated maf?

I don't much care about the input. I care about the output. For the love of god, can we please stop rephrasing the same thing? Give me dyno sheets. I want to roll in them. I want to frolic in their papery goodness. I want to see curves and decimals. I will buy you beer. Is beer good? I will buy beer for the man, woman, or machine that works with me on this.

Don't get mad.. lol I am just saying that the testing was a little flawed. People are throwing around words like Imperial Evidence and Fact, I just wanna make sure people reading this take it with a grain of salt.

Where was the external MAF when you did the CAI run VS. The open cone run.

I ain't mad, brotha... you know I love you all. S'why I wanna give ya's beer.

The MAF, tube, filter location, angle, etc did not change. The only thing that changed was the box.

He's just reminding us that the MAF is temperature dependent which is a very good point.

I thought you put the air filter on the throttle body (with a couple of couplers and MAF) compared to using a tube and filter

This was mentioned earlier in this thread but the basic fact is this:

The first test you ran richer than the second...If you had more hot air coming in and your car leaned itself out more and is probably why the car gained power.

So basically....If you would have just left the box on and leaned your car out a little you would have gained the same amount of power.

^^^ I like this comment but I have to add that AFR is not directly proportional to volume and velocity. Just because you tune to achieve the same AFR with two different types of filters doesn't mean that the engine is running at the same volumetric efficiency. This is why I say to use the best flowing filter and tune the car appropriately.

we're still talking about less than 5whp. who is seriously that concerned about that?

Some of these "track" guys would probably be concerned. Personally, I'm like you and don't care much. For some reason we're interested in this topic and that's why we keep posting.

dont get me wrong, 5whp matters. how much it matters is dependant upon the person talking about it. i dont care in this situation when the car weighs 3500 pounds and you need a 15-20 whp swing to even notice the power difference. 5whp on my bike that weighs a max of 600 pounds is huge.

this entire thread is to show that putting money into any type of intake is basically throwing your money into the wind. you will not see any gains at the track. the only gains you'll achieve are the ones inside your head.
