okay well first of all i have a ticking coming from my front head. im almost certian it is coming from the head, i put my ear up against the head while its running and you can almost hear metal hitting metal. aghhh okay well then when its ideling its very rough sometimes. it rocks and bucks the engine back and forth to were you can feel it in the car and you can hear like a miss in the exhaust when it does it. i have new plugs and i cleaned my MAF sensor so im thinking its not that. even tho the plugs could be a little off gaped. i will have to recheck those. BUT WHY IS IT KNOCKING SOO HARD?? will a scan tool help me diagnose what is wrong???

as far as the heads, it concerns me but not to much cause im gonna get new ones anyways. but the rocking and bucking of the motor. that kind of scares me. almost enough to park it and not drive it anymore. but its my DD so i cant.
aghhh maybe i shouldent be racing bimmers down the highway

bent valve? broken valve spring? rocker loose?

take it apart and see whats wrong or drive it until something breaks. what youre describing can be like 50 different things.

you can pull the valve covers pretty easily and check to make sure everything is tight and looks good. pulling the heads is another story, but do the easy stuff first.

If you haven't replaced valve covers in a long time, you might want to do that while you have it off or a leak might form.

It could also be a bad lifter.

injectors??? they get that loud?? and how hard is it to swap out the whole head?? i went and got some quotes on putting some new heads on and it was upward of 1000$ just to put them on. even more to open the stock ones up and rebuild them. dont heads just bolt on??? is it really all that hard?? but yea im gonna go and pull the covers off this weekend (i aint got the tools at my house) plus i think i gotta take the motor mount off to pull the cover off so i gotta have some tools and see what i find. i would like to build the car out and im just trying to do things right while im at them.

I could give you a hand with it sometime...you live in ga right? i live in centerville ga....let me know if you need help with something i am off all week...I am getting the mods in my sig tomorrow so they will be here.If you have the time you can swing by and see how everything from the lower intake manifold up comes off since i will have to do that to install my mods.If you cant make it let me know 4 sure next time you go to the track cause i would love to go out there with another gp...if you can stop by i can probably tell you what it is

    also...

Check the plug wires. arcing from the spark can sound like that sometimes.Had a buddy with a gtp down here that had that same problem when a plug wire fell off from the back and it was a real loud ticking noise...just a suggestion.

I am not sure how loud your noise is but yes the injectors can tick pretty loud sometimes.

here is a link that shows someone replacing a lim gasket...you have to do everything it shows in here to remove the heads...i think the only thing it does not show is them removing the lim itself and the heads...wich is just a matter of a removing some more bolts...

    http://www.grandprixforums.net/f73/v...sket-3112.html

Me?? I would never pay that much for someone to do that to my car...I would much rather do it myself and know it's done right. It probably is a reasonable quote though considering the ''flag time'' that it says it is SUPPOSE to take.

I knew a personal friend that was replacing the heads on a motor and dropped a razor blade down the distributor hole in the block and just left it there...lol...nothing ever happend from it as i suppose it is just laying at the bottom of the oil pan but still you get the point....I am the only one who works on my car lol

just looked at your first post again....check the plugs and wires real good.It sounds like that is exactly what was happening to my buddy's gtp when one of the plug wires came off of the spark plug.

How far in minuts or hours do you live from warnerrobins or macon?

well the ticking has been doing it even since i had the car. and then i put new plugs and wires on and it still did it. i really never paid attention to it but now that im thanking about moding and actually going threw with it im also thinking into the longjevity of the car. yea i need to go back and check all the plugs and wires. its hot right now. ill have to wait till the car cools. dont wanna touch the manifold on the back side. macon is about 1-1.5 hours away. maybe 2 but not all that bad.

Either one of you going to the drag strip in Commerce on May 10? They're having the Pinks AllOut show there. If so, Let me know and maybe we can meet up there. I live right here in Athens. As for a comment on your ticking problem, everyone has basically covered the possibilities. You won't know until you tear into it. And if you have any mechanical skills, you should be able to replace the heads yourself. Pick up a Haynes repair manual at you local auto parts store. It has alot of useful info that can pretty much help you with anything you need. And if you need more, you know you have us here to help also.
