Yesterday I noticed my LIM is leaking and took it to the guy who does all my car work, which he confirmed what i thought. He gave me an estimate of $600-$800 does this seem reasonable? He also said that everything has to come off the top of the motor including the valve covers, rockers and push rods. is this true? If he is correct and the rockers do need to come out I was thinking about having him put the 1.9 rockers in. Would I need a retune if i had him do that? and would the gains be worth it?

i just checked on ALLDATA PRO, most dealerships use this program to price jobs... it calls for 3.6 hrs labor and part is $66.40 so ur mechanic is tryin to charge u 200 bucks a hour pretty much.

He's thinking of a 60* V6 intake gasket job. Those engines need to have the pushrods removed to take the intake gaskets out, which is why you would need to remove everything. For one of those engines, that price is not out of line at all.

Yea its a easy enough job Takes a few hand tools and a few hours
Helped a member on here with thiers last weekend when all was said and done id say we had 5 hours into it with cleaning parts very well and doing the valve cover gaskets

His quote from gm was higher then that but they have included a new intake mani (was a gt)

I couldn't imagine what the dealer would charge. When I first got the car, the valve cover gaskets were leaking. Dealer estimate for new gaskets was $695, I couldn't belive it, what thieves. I will talk to the guy better tomorrow. With my business I dont have alot of free time to mess around with the car, so sometimes it's just easier to pay someone to do it. I know this guy is álmost always more expensive than most mechanics in the area, but he's very particular and builds cars from the ground up, I know he will do the job right.

Maybe I am missing something but, is this a GTP? What year? Didn't they do a dealer recall for the leaking valve covers that catch on fire? If so, isn't that a free valve cove gasket and free labor? If it is not a GTP, my bad.

Well today I had a friend help me change the gasket, it took us awhile to do being neither one of us have ever changed one before. I changed the oil and all new antifreeze. no leaks so far and while i was in there i changed out my autolite 605's for 104's.

GMPUNK sorry I missed the 3.5 pulley thing and sorry you didn't get the message in time to cash in on the recall.

You might be entitled to a free dealer, front and rear valve cover gasket plus labor, maybe it is posted in the supercharged section, and under DIY job…..oh….no…wait..

    It’s a RECALL!
Maybe not, but just in case.

    APR 08, 2009 | Recall ID# 60166

    MAR 12, 2008 | Recall ID# 71015

    It’s all good.

Too bad the recall only allows for one replacement set? Or at least that's what my dealer tells me after the ones they put in a couple years back on both my wife's GTP and my Regal GS are leaking (and perhaps causing a new fire hazard?) again.
