For all u 3800 smart guys, how and what is the simplest way if there is one to figuring out if preload is correct on my lifters? I had the motor going with my XPZ for a little bit before i had to pull it from the ARP studs leaking coolant and was hearing a tick. Im trying to rule things out that might have also been causing that. But the lifters are a likely possibility of that as well so i wanna make sure that is in spec and can rule that out.

Most of u know of my build and that it has zero miles yet and about 30 minutes of run time. The motor is out again currently. The LIM is off along with the valve covers so the lifter valley and rockers are exposed.

    Thanks

Preload on oe-r's is 3/4 to 1 and 1/4 turns if I remember correctly. Also, they are noisy as fcuk even with the right preload. I went back to stockers after my comp lifter experience.

i thought there was an actual way of figuring out preload? those numbers are for stock lifters if i remember correctly. And the oe-rs were 1/8 to 3/4 turn after snug. But thats what i think i remember.

What was your experience with the comps?

i know this blue. but im just trying to make sure i got this all done right so this doesnt have to come back apart again. And plus i dont know if this was ever mentioned but when i was going to do the IS4 build before i changed ro the XPZ, I bought the IS4 Cam/Head package with oe-rs and mls .052 gaskets. I wouldnt have went with them if they didnt come in the package.

my stockers were thrown away because they sat too long and got metal shavings and other crap all over them and inside the cups. Didnt think i was gonna reuse them at the time.

U could always just buy me new and ill send u these comps. Sound like a plan?

OE-R's noisy as **** I agree. I got more tired of telling everyone that heard it running that the noise is normal. To save my breath and a argument about lifters, and noisy valve trains from know it alls from car shows, I yanked mine out at 3200 miles. They still sit on my shelf in their original box on my shelf to this day.

I installed a good set of used stock CompG lifters I bought from ED, and have been happy ever since.

If your really wanting to know the preload, I too think it was around 1/8 or 1/4 turn past snug.

me neither, but i have no idea where else to buy them. you could go to napa and ask for them. i think they are the same replacement part that we would get for our cars anyway.

GM Parts Direct: Your direct source for Genuine GM Parts

GM #12499225 is the set of 16 for the LSx engines. The set of 12 for our engines SHOULD be the same lifter, but if they have some old stock laying around they may be the original pre-LS7 lifters.
