Hey guys. I just ordered a complete ZZP SS M90 kit for my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, along with stock GTP injectors. I didn't order the ZZP PCM, as I have heard horror stories about it. Everyone talks about the DHP PCM, but I am unsure which one to get, as I will no longer have a true L36, but not a L67 either. I prefer to just get an unlocked canned tune for now, and eventually get it dyno tuned once I have completed every modification I want. What should I do?

    Thanks!

do you have a viable tuner? i used zzps pcm for a couple of weeks to get my car running, all they did was rahtard the timing and add fuel like crazy. there is also the issue of the car not going into closed loop on the cold start and will die. so a tune is def in the cards. are you running the single belt drive? i have a 3.8 and 3.4 ssm90 pulleys if youre interested

I don't have a tuner right now. That's why I wanted to just get a decent canned tune for now. I am using the single belt drive, correct. I am starting with a 4.2" pulley. I will work down from there. What mods did you have to run the 3.8" and the 3.4"?

if youre gonna get a canned tune get the pcm from zzp, unless you wanna call intense and tell them to change the tables for a top swap. as for a tuner check out good gm shops that have a reputation for fast cars, for example you see their parking lot is full of 10 second vettes and fbodies. its a 3.8 v6 not the saturn 5 rocket. as for my mods:
plog,42.5lb injectors,2.5 catless downpipe, plugs, tstat,er rockers, northstar tb and the 3.4 pulley. i never had belt slip and my car went 13.0 @104mph you gotta get it tuned!! a lot of people knock the m90 kit, i pieced it together for less than $1000 and it was the best mod i did to the car

should have just done a top swap instead of going with that one belt POS setup.

Meh. I don't exactly feel comfortable doing a top swap myself (going into the heads). There are plenty of guys who are pounding out a ton of power with the SS M90 kit. Who cares what it looks like?

ZZP's pcms are about as close as you can come to a good canned tune. Funny how everyone says they blow motors but no proof. Easy to push the blame on something they buy that they have no clue what it all the pcm actually does and the changes that were made over stock.

because belt slip sucks ass and not being able to take the blower belt off without taking off the accessory belt too also sucks ass.

you can also swap in the L67 pulley setup and run the SSM90 kit still so you have two belts. i would highly recommend it.

Yeah, if you're not gonna topswap, at least stay away from single belt.

Hmmm... Where would I find an L67 pulley setup? Do the L36 and L67 have that many differences between the pulleys?

you need another idler, the tensioner, the coil pack bracket, and the crank pulley.

So from this picture, I'll need pulley's 1, 8, 6, 9 ,3... Correct? And which tensioner? I'm seeing a few different part numbers on RockAuto. I ordered a coil pack bracket with the M90 kit.

yep, you got it. the tensioner is pulley 3. 8 and 9 are idlers (9 is part of the coil pack bracket).

Thank you, Bio. So I won't have to change any of the back side pulleys? Just the ones closer to the front of the car?

i ran the single belt for a year and never had any slip. i changed to the dual belt set up when i swapped in my L32. you can email Ed Morad and tell him you want the GTP pulley set up and theyll send you everything. make sure you get a new crank bolt from the dealer. as for the zzp pcms theyre hit or miss the first one they sent me had a short in it and commanded 7 volts from ignition system at times, they sent me another one and it worked fine until i got the car tuned. they richen the crap out of the tables and retard the timing so the sskit wont blow the motor, a tuner is still needed to achieve the full potential of the car
