Are you guys serious about needing a tune with a headers install? Also SSAC is a good company with decent quality products. I have a set of their headers on my MX-6 ( no tune ).

no you dont NEED it, but why even put parts on your car if youre not going to tune it and get the full potential out of it?

I think what hes saying bio is that he wants to put on the parts now while he has time and when he gets the money later he will tune. Yes you can do that. Headers are a supporting mod not a power adder.

Yes thats right I cant tune since there is no-where within 8 hr drive from here. I want to add some mods then tune. I know exhaust is not a power adder but its the first step to do with the mods I want to do. Cant add pulley first :P

Basically I just wanted to know if it was dangerous to drive around with headers and no tune for 3-6 months

You really otta try to get a tune to get the full potential out of your car. You can buy a canned tune but it wont' be as good as one personalized for your car. My SSAC's will be in today

Oh believe me I'm going to get a "real" tune eventually. I just have no-where close to get one done so i want to install (all at once maybe with a canned tune) the max amount of mods i safely can before having to tune. I'm thinking of zzp headers, thermo, plugs, tstat, 1.8's or 1.9's with springs, 3.6 pulley if i can without knock. Then later I want an intercooler. So I was hoping a canned tune would be good for everything until I get the intercooler then I will get a real tune. I want to throw headers on right now without a canned tune and I'm wondering if it was safe.

Keep in mind I have an 05 Comp G

I cannot understand how these engine will gain no hp by freeing up the exhaust with better flowing headers? The difference was night and day on my mx6 with ssac headers install. Even better with 2.5 catback minus the cat

why do you think they gain no hp with exhaust?????

i picked up half a second in the 1/4 and 5mph with headers and no tune. ran it with no tune for damn near a year, no issuies.

    THEY DO!

youll gain a stupid amount of top end with headers over manifolds, but you really dont see the full gains of it all until you tune it so you have more timing. boost isnt the big thing with these cars. they like to stay around 10 pounds and then run as much timing as possible. however, i like doing things the hard way so i ran low timing and high boost, but it made for one hell of fun ride.

remember to get something to keep track of KR
its kinda pointless to get a tune after putting headers on just to see performance. its better to save that money for when ur finally ready to tune. its best to only tune when needed to fix codes where needed i suppose. so my plan is to tune as soon as i drop my pulley and not while im putting my mods on or else i would be tuning everytime i put a mod on . . .

i picked up hella topend with my headers. i did feel like i lost a tad of low end with out a cat (back pressure is good sometimes) but it loves it up top, specially toped with some rockers.

Better for the launch. I noticed a drop in low end tq. But mid and high end tq was well worth it I'm pretty sure my mazda would own my regal after header install, not so much before the headers.

going from intake with stock exhaust to intake with headers that made launching harder. it picked up power all around.

in my mid range tho i only boost 4psi, then it would touch 6-7 after 5500. ive heard of other people talking about loosing some lowend with out a cat compared to the same set up with a cat.

but i dont care, i just ramp the timing up in the midrange

Cats do nothing for these cars performance wise...and if you noticed a diff from a stocker to either a high flow or nothing...then something was going bad in yours...and another thread where Logan delivers!! Saying headers aren't a power adder LOL SLP's were put on a stock SSEi Bonne and made 18 more FWHP withOUT a tune...so yeah...no power.

well, it wasent on these motors. it was on an 03 cobra but i figured it would be the same concept. my boost seems lower than others in the midrange. but like said, that just means i can run more timing then.

And also where do you pick up shortened "Dog Bones"? I'm guessing that's the things that are holding the engine? Two right in front of you when you open the hood?
