OK Thanks all for your input. I've changed it completely, please allow me to introduce the fail intake v2!

This is great, I'll see if I can find a 22.5 at home depot and upgrade it to a 4" filter later on. Does it not matter that is not sealed from the engine compartment?

yeah, that does kinda matter. what i dont have pictured is my cardboard heat shield, that pretty much surrounds the filter and half of the pvc pipe. once its upgraded to sheet metal, most likely this summer, i may post pics of that...

also, your new "v2" intake, in my opinion, is not any better then it was originally. that pipe you have coming right off the throttle body goes down in size way to much.... what is that, 3 inches wide?? the throttle body opening is 3.75 inches. you need ALL of your piping at least that wide if you wanna make it better then stock... right now yours is, well, worse then stock. and the fact that you're supercharged just makes me cringe even more

Damn you guys are a though crowd LoL. While I agree that it's still restrictive I do think that it is better than the stock box, based on the fact that the stock box has 2 90º bends and not to mention the ECM inside it. It also ends up having a 3" intake at the fender. The fail intake v2 was engineered to have less fail in it with only 2 45º bends in it.

Anyway, I also agree that if the TB intake is 4", the whole intake should be at least that size, therefore I started working on the fail intake v3, I went to the home depot, but they don't have anything like a 22.5º elbow, they don't even have rubber couplings or elbows of any kind, but I found this 4" tubing which is quite solid and you can bend it as you wish (just like a hooker):

I didn't make it in time to autozone to buy the 4" filter. They gave me the GTFO look when I stood at the door, so I'll have to finish it tomorrow.

    What do you guys think?

those bends are nothing compared to your suffocating 3 inch piping. i still think stock is better then your "v2", especially since you're supercharged.... and have you actually examinded the factory air box? the PCM doesnt affect the flow AT ALL. what year is your car?? i just checked the factory airbox from my 01 and where it meets the fender the opening is 3.75, not 3. that should be the same for all 97-03s....

OMG I thought you guys were kidding about the open cone thing I might give it a try, I'd just like to put it a few inches more separate from the exhaust pipe.

Jake: mine is a 98 GTP. The box has a 3" inlet. That rubber fitting at the fender that you see where I ran my 3" v2 goes with the factory box and it's also 3" =( That's why I think that in my case, having the 3" v2 wasn't worse than the factory box with the 3" inlet, atleast as far as width goes.

But anyway, I'm getting the 4" filter today and trying it out with the aluminum tube that you see in the picture.

haha this thread rocks. eventually when you get to fail intake v7 you will end up having the fwi that everyone else does and you should have done in the first place.

fenderwells are for women who don't understand the flowing concept with a roots blown motor...you'll realize that once your smart enough to bolt the filter to the throttle body and start modding FOR REAL.

'97's and some '98's had the double bent stock air box...if he would have upgraded to a '99+ stock box and gutted it for free...it would have been way better.

wouldnt it get too much heat soak with the exhaust crossover right there? or is this only advised if you have headers with ceramic coating?
