downpipe

i'm running a 3.5 pulley with colder NGKs, FWI, and a 180* tstat. i'm looking through ZZP for a downpipe, but i'm given a ton of sizes and special trims. off-road, shorty, with a cat, etc.

i don't really want to go with welding, but i really don't know what the differences are between these. i hear you should go with a 3", so that's where i'm trying to troubleshoot.

any ideas on which would be the most efficent? i appreciate the input!

If you don't have to worry about emissions.. get an off-road (no cat) downpipe... it just bolts in. You don't need a shorty.

Headers are more expensive... but they gains are alot better.

excellent! thank you for the quick response! michigan is in crappy shape economically, but i sure do love not having to deal with the tests.

i was going to start with the ceramic coated manifolds and upgrade when i have a better budget. things are stiff at the moment unfortunately.

but i'm definitely looking forward to a good pair of pacesetters!

I have a 3" ZZP catted dp and it had to be welded in on the bottom.

can the rear o2 sensor be deleted without any major issues?

The rear o2 sensor just shows whether or not the Cat is "working." It can be deleted but will set a code and SES light. This can easily be removed via a tuner or o2 emulator. The rear o2 serves hardly any purpose and mine is deleted and tuned out.

it can be set to non report for no ses light.. deleting it isnt a good idea. i forget the years.... but i think its 2000 thru 2003 u CAN NOT delete code.. it will cause u to stupid rich also there are no GOOD set of pacesetters out there.

Its hit and miss with the 01+ cars for the 02 sensor. My car is fine with the code deleted and others are not. I would get some headers.

I beg to differ. Mine are coated, don't leak at all...and are 2 piece just like ZZP's. Only difference is slip fit vs. my 2 bolts (front header to crossover). If you don't want to take the time to have them welded up then they aren't a good buy and they used to be awesome budget headers...but time moved on and now SD headers are where its at. Get them.

Nothing. Temp changes and rust. That's it. It has NOTHING to do with how well they seal or not.

alright so i decided to take your guys' advice and i ordered some headers from speeddaddy's for 200 bucks. not bad compared to getting a coated set sold seperately per piece from ZZP for twice the price. the headers come with the ubend delete (i believe, from what i'm seeing on the picture of the set anyway: 1997 1998 1999 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 3.8L V6 HEADERS: eBay Motors (item 170469647635 end time Jul-05-10 17:41:03 PDT)) for the DP with that set, should i just grab a 3" shorty?

yesss that way i can use the money instead for a local tuner. it's funny, i haven't fired this car up since the head gasket blew seven months ago. i've been taking succhhh a long time doing the whole thing, but i've been ordering and installing mods along the way. it was bone stock before with shoddy vacuum. i'm so excited to see (and hear) it fire up now.

if u do get the speed daddy headers.... dont be shy with copper RTV on joints.. let it dry for the 24 hours they recommend...
