Hi I am on my second GTP after a guy totaled my other one after only 7 weeks.I rode 2 hours to look at a 98 GTP yesterday and bought it.On the way home I took the interstate for about 70 miles with no probs.I stopped at a gas station for a break and noticed a rattle from the drivers side.I went in and when I came out the car started up fine. When I backed out and put it in drive to leave it stalled out and would only turn over for 1-2 mins and then started up and ran fine.About 4-5 miles up the road I stopped for a stop sign and when I went to pull off she stalled again. It was 3-4 mins of trying to start (not continuously but evert 30 secs) it started and ran at highway speed just fine.I only did rolling stops the rest of the way home.It was late so I went out this morn and started it up fine but the car lunged forward when it crankes in park !? I have not drove it again on the street because I don't want to get stuck or stall in a bad situation.Any suggestions as to what the cause is????????

IF the mount is that bad and it is smacking stuff...(example, the sway bar) it'll think the engine is LITERALLY knocking...and yank timing...hence false knock. Try flipping the dog bone mounts and putting solid rubber replacements from Auto Zone...they are cheap and never crack and leak out fluid like the stock filled factory ones.

Thanks I bought all the mounts last night and we r putting them on this afternoon.I can move the motor 5-6 inches front to back by hand with ease.Plus the rubber from the bottom mount is pressed out and could be interfering with the cps at times it looks like.I have the carfax on this car and it is a one owner dealer trade in .The origional owner traded it 5 months ago and the car looks like it has never been drove but it has 149,000 miles on it.It is a 98 and looks newer than the 03 I was looking at!!!!! I hope this is the prob so I can enjoy it.My 2000 spoiled me and now I hate to drive my bird!? Who knew a four door could be fun. LOL .Thanks again and I will let everyone know how things turn out. .

Replaced the mount and flipped the dog bones! Went on a 70 mile test drive with no probs and it drives and shifts better with no lunging at start up.Hope it solved the stall.Who knew a mount could cause so much trouble!

Stall Has resurfaced. We went 80 more miles to go visit with no probs and I was sooo happy but later in the day my husband and his dad went out in it and it stalled as he was pulling off from a stop sign. Then later he came out of the store and it would not start. He is unsure what made it finally crank. Its like when this happens after 4 or 5 tries it will crank and run fine? I am going to change the fuel filter and I want to change the intake. Why is the computer in the airbox on this car.It wasn't on my 2000? I like the set up on the other car better and this intake gets very niosy sometimes.Still no trouble codes so any suggestions will be welcome.(I have checked all cables/wires)

If your PCM wasn't in the airbox in your 2000...then it wasn't a Grand Prix.

As for the issue...I'd say check for SES's...is it throwing any codes? Might try unplugging the MAF and see if it helps.

My other car may have been converted then because it was not like this one. I know it was a grand prix GTP.I even changed the supercharger fluid myself on it.The filter is different also. Also I have no codes that is why I am having trouble.A code would be a huge help and today it has run fine on a 50 mile run to town and back. I may have to wait until it leaves me stuck finally to figure it out!!

This probably wont be much help but my sister in law had a similar problem with her car, it never stalled on her but she had a bad O2 sensor(I believe) next time I talk to her I can ask her which one or what exactly the problem was I hope you can get this problem fixed soon!

Edit: Talked to my brother about it said it was the mass air flow sensor, not sure if it sent a code but it would be something to look at. I hope this helps!
