how about DONT have zzp put it in for you and learn something about your car along the way.

Yeah. Different people have different situations. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to attempt to do it myself. Its my DD and I also take my wife wherever she needs to go. However I do have the money! I'm not having zzp do it. They have pissed me off and on top of that, cam install prices just went up $100. I've got an appointment for the first weekend in February at big worms shop (Much better deal). Maybe I'll come watch and/or get some hands on.
let me know how u like it. i am going to get a vs cam next month. i wanted the lower duation at .050 to keep the power band for dd usage. xp's sound good, but i'm not gonna turn it up that much. i think vs for mostly cruising.
u think clearance would be a non issue?. i do want rr's. we'll see, bring the shortblock home from jy today. gonna have heads checked for crackes and then bring home to gasket match them.
576 lift intake
570 lift exhaust.
makes the xp look like a baby cam
probably would have to mill the valve collors down some. i think its .100 or something. if you take the heads to have the resurfesed and flattened, just get them to do that also.
but then you would probably have to run 130# springs and a double roller. maybe not worth it.
if i were to run a cam on stock heads i would heavily debate a VS over an XP, but then again i like the S1x the most. the VS has a great mid range that is awesome for a DD.
i figured to keep the stock gearing, and i'm not gonna be balls out in it, vs may be better suited. feb, i'll order one...still got a little time to get all the stuff together.
id rather jump out on someone then them jump out on me and i have to run them down with my topend power.
kind of like this, my belt is sliping like crazy, i get maybe 3-4 pounds of boost, and it does not really catch till topend, (new belt on the way, along with re greasing the idler pullies ) so i have no mid range power but its okay up top.
this is a stock 3.4 grand am gt by the way.

I just drove my buddy's gtp today (he has a vs cam installed with a 3.5 inch pulley stock manni's and a 3 inch downpipe.) It's the fastest grand prix I've been in "seeing that I havn't been in any besides my own". Honestly, his car against mine feels like a GT vs a GTP (or a gtp with another supercharger so to speak). BIG DIFFERENCE. and it sounds pretty damn good thru the stock cat back. All the videos I've seen the vs cam don't do it justice. I conclude that even with his minimal mods, THIS IS NOT A PUNK A$$ CAM! I know it's small, but it packs A LOT more of a punch than I thought it would. I can't wait to install mine now. I should be quite a bit quicker than him because I am doing headers and an even smaller pulley. This cam has a crapload of topend, (but that is in comparison to a nearly stock gtp). I'm sure most of the other cams have more up top, but I was more than sure that this will satisfy my modding needs. I will get speedo vids if I can find a straight open road that isn't so snowy. My install is set for the first weekend in February. Hopefully I can pull that low 13 everyone is betting on. WE SHALL SEE
Any bets on quarter mile times??? This is Just for fun.
I will take her to the strip when it opens and we'll see what I can pull off!
Mods will be
VS cam
SSAC headers with catless 3" downpipe
Ported blower
FWI
104's
180 t-stat
Big Worm custom tune (Congrats Brett on car of the month "Mi. Grand prix club")
3.3 or 3.2 inch pulley
Sexy driver
Fast Orange paint Job
This is on a 160K mile 97 GTP coupe. Stock tranny
ANY BETS ? I want to know!!
Sexy driver automatically made it run 17's
15.1 On your first run then progressively better until something breaks.
well orange, thats the cam for me too (vs) may add rr's maybe 1.7's, later. this is gonna be a slow build. ours combo's will be similar, gonna keep the 3.5 mps for a while.....later dude
might need some 105's valve spring with the 1.7s....
but if you could swing it, it would probably be pretty bad ass. still more lift than the xp.
The s1x is arguably the best stage 1 cam out here. The NIC makes more power upon the install (after a good tune), but it dosn't have a lot of potential after that. Plus zzp promises 12's with just the NIC cam, a pulley and a tune...., but most can't seem to get out of 13's with those mods. The s1x generaly puts down better track numbers than the xp! Thats a bad @ss cam. Only reason I chose the VS is because of money. There's less valvetrain work involved. Plus I'm looking for low 13's maybe a hight 12 after I tear the tranny up, I'm getting a race trans and I'm done modding for quite a while.
