Adding my symptoms/fix to this 7 year old thread should someone else need it. My symptoms were: 2001 GTP with 145k blew the fuel pump fuse at startup while running errands (car had been running a long time). Took me about 35 minutes to troubleshoot to that point but I'll skip that part. Replaced fuse with a 15amp spare, car ran again and I went on my way making mental note to check this forum later. Next morning forgot about it and went on a long trip. Several starts/shut-offs later the same thing happened - blew the fuse on startup when car had been running for a long time. Swapped with a 20amp fuse (no more 15's left) and got to where I could research/repair things. Read several threads including this one and decided to try easier/cheaper repairs first and then replace pump only as a last resort. Went to store and bought fresh fuses, new fuel filter and new fuel pump relay. Replaced filter, put 15 amp fuse back in and then took my OLD relay and tried the pin 85 bypass thing. (I wanted to see what would happen.) Well then the pump wouldn't run. So in other words, with a good fuse but pin 85 bent out - I had the same symptoms as a blown fuse. So in my mind that points to the relay being bad. So I put the new relay in (with functional pin 85) and the car seems to run fine (knock on wood).

If my repair sticks, then this is what I think my issue was:
    1) either the fuel pump relay failed and that was what was blowing the fuse, or
    2) clogged* fuel filter causing pump to pull more amps, took out the fuse and the relay during the first or second failure.

    * (really doubt this was it because car ran fine at high rpms and for long periods of time).

SparkyDawg. Get the Racetronix re-wire kit and put all these troubles behind you. The kit comes with its own relay and its own fuse. Completely bypassing the factory system.

P.S. your Porsche thread is due for an update, no?

OK that info will be in the arsenal should the problem come back to haunt me. And haunt it would because the GTP is with my daughter in Oregon and I only had 1.5 days up there before returning to SoCal. (Not enough time to order anything.) I'm putting together a care package for the GTP because I'll be with it again in a few months when school starts.

Updates are coming on the abnormal Porsche. After July 4th weekend the Porsche thread will be caught back up with real time.

The pin 85 by pass thing is only for 97-00 GTP that have the two speed pump, it by passes the relay and set the pump in high speed mode only. The 97-00 GTP with the steel fuel tanks have two speed venturi pump and than the 01-03 with plastic tank do not.
