I have owned two grand prixs both with sets of flowmasters 40 series muffler.
First grand prix ran a hogan performance downpipe stock cat with res and 3 inch piping. I always loved how that grand prix sounded, Noise never really bothered me inside the car.
Brother now owns the car and due to the piping aging he had the pipes and everything redone and now has 2.5 inch piping. Thing sounds great IMO I can hear my radio, have conversations and not be to bothered by it.
Jump to my current grand prix I went with the same muffler hoping for a similar result. That has not been the case, Yes it has a similar sound but extremely loud on the inside, I started out with a cat back, 3 inch piping res delete. at first im like ok, I like it, Then I started noticing the car was way to loud to me. So I took it to the shop and had them throw a glass pack in it. That had helped a little but not much, was much deeper. Then comes a couple months ago. I had a hogan downpipe and magnaflow cat that I wanted to put on the car. So I get that done, And hello loud as fu** central. I start the car. My interior shakes, I drive on the highway at 55-65 the car shakes like hell from the exhaust notes. I am lowered on INTRAX lowering springs and I get more vibration from the exhaust note.
So I have had a couple of ideas on a solution. which is where I am torn, I want a great sounding exhaust, I have had so many people tell me how good my exhaust sounds. Yet I have to deal with my ears ringing and unintentional back massage. So here are a couple things I have thought of to change over.
Option 1: Drop the piping size to 2.5.
Option 2: different mufflers, possibly magnaflows. Only problem with this is I have heard some magnaflows that sound absolutelly horrible. for examply You rev the engine and all you get is a backlash of crackles and pops.
Option 3. Stock mufflers, I have heard that the stock mufflers arent that restrictive, Yes I do plan to add performance upgrades but I really dont plan to go any faster then 13s.
Any thoughts ideas or to say, What the hell are you thinking Eric.
