I am thinking about using amsoil. Does anybody on here use it and what about the claims of running 35,000 miles between oil changes?

Why would you run any oil whatsoever for 35k miles thats just plain stupid. But to answer your question, I've heard very good things about it. I'll be putting amsoil 5w-30 in my car for this winter
I run amsoil. I have 7000 on it right now. I love their products. I have one of thier dry flow filters also. I am going to go 10,000 on my changes. I also put it in our truck and I am giong to do 15,000 on that.
amsoil has one product that is for every 7k and one that is annually or 35k. I am running the extended stuff in my wifes car....but I plan to change it at 15k or so... I have ran amsoil in our race vehicle and swear by the stuff. I personally wouldnt go over 15k with any oil max no matter what it says. And if you do city driving, cut that in half. I personally run synthetic and change it every 5k or so..
I used to run Amsoil in my race engines and had nothing but problems with them. Switched to conventional with added sulfur and zinc and never had a issue since. My dad has been a mechanic for 20 years and always used Valvoline and never had issues![]()
Service Life
AMSOIL Signature Series 0W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:
• Normal Service(3) – Up to 35,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 17,500 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Replace AMSOIL Ea oil filter at the time of oil change up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first (other brands at standard OEM* intervals).
• In all non-gasoline fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.
mechanically sound will rule out a lot of people using it. I wouldnt run it that long in my motor cause i havent replaced the lim gaskets yet in this motor. once i do that i wouldnt have much of a promblem running 10k or so.
yea i heard that as well but would i do it? nope.
i run royal purple. they say its good for 10000 or maybe more than that im not sure. but hell i still do it every 3000. i want my motor to last as long as possible so i dont mind spending 50 bucks every 3000 miles
Drew:
I am sure that Amsoil is good oil. That being said, IMO a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at WM and an OEM PF 47 filter are hard to beat. They run about $25 at the WM, and will last 5-7k at least.
GM says that the oil and filter should be changed at least once a year. At some point, I don't think we gain much by extending the oil interval beyond 12 months or whatever the OLM says.
I think one can try too hard to improve on something, and many times the return is minimal for our money/efforts. Kind of like rotating tires every 1000 miles.
Don
Anyone who leave oil in there motor for 35k deserves to be shot IMO. Remind me not to buy a car from any idiot who does this.
With that said, my family runs Valvoline and do oil changes 2,500-3,000 miles. We have cars ranging from 1,000 miles to 500,000 miles........
From what i am learning (bobistheoilguy.com)
The oil itself does not break down. What happens is the detergent packs get used up thus started sludge.
The only way to tell when it is safe to go thousands of miles is to get a oil analyst done and she
