It looks like this guy is using the stock tube(for lack of a better term) to attach his air filter, is this a good idea, a bad idea or does it really not make any difference?

y not remove the whole box? thats nothin but a hot air sucker.
+1, get the air box out of there atleast so theres some fresh air coming near the filter, right now its breathin off exhaust heat
He said because thats where the pcm is and he didnt know where else to put it or something. But for just starting to mod, is this a good idea or bad? Im thinking I might do that to mine if it doesnt really matter
your pcm is no where near the air box, you can get a universal bend and cheapo cone filter from autozone and have a 10x better ghetto intake then that
But if I just took out the air box, would that be a good, easy, and cheap setup if I just got the filter?
u would still need a pipe 2 turn it away from where its at now. the pcm u could zip tie down if u need 2.
well last time i checked the pcm was at the bottom of the air box to keep it away from the elements but maybe that is not true on all years. otherwise i have the same set up except i made mine out of pvc.
i agree with bio. bad idea
i guess, but why in gods name are you not just taking the box out if youre doing that? its in the way of where the cool air is coming into the engine bay. the PCM is sealed and will take the elements just fine. its not like you leave your hood open all the time.
Im about the farthest thing from car savvy, and I dont even know how to take out the airbox, Im trying to make this as easy as possible for myself xD
The intake box is easy to take out, a couple of clips and screws and it's out. You can cut the bottom of the box so that it can hold your pcm and have a clear way for cold air for your intake
or just zip tie the PCM down like I know a lot of us have... works like a charm and with the intake going over it no one will even see the zip ties.... even though I have a lot of them I took Bios Approach though... its not what it looks like under the hood that determines how fast it is... isnt that right Bio??? (yall should see his old nasty ass pics)
meh. PCM trays are just more Weight lol, With the Airbox removed I was at Weight reduction stage 2. beat that Bio!
I would make sure that you secure the pcm in some way so that it doesnt move because over time the wires to the pcm can corrode and possibly break. but i agree you need to take the air box out so you can run the intake more towards the fender where the cooler air is going to be. i used a 3"-3" rubber coupler, a 22 1/2 degree elbow and a section of 3" pcv with a cone filter to make my intake.
with the PCM zip tied down, its not going anywhere... Trust me we secure wire harnesses on the B1 and B2's for the AF I believe I can do it for my car too.
I have my PCM sitting there...it doesn't move. Don't listen to these Nancy's.
