Belt Slip

Ok, driving home tonight I noticed that my supercharger was not kicking in. When I pulled into the driveway and popped the hood the belt was off the s/c. I'm assuming from what I've read on here so far that it's not a major problem and it can just be put back on. Is that assumption right, and any explanation on why it would just come off?? I've had the car for a year 1/2 now and never had this happen before so...Also, before this I was hearing what was described on here as "rocks rolling around," any ideas on what is causing that and how to fix? Thanks

New coupler to fix the rocks sound.

As for why it came off, how old is the car? Have you changed pulleys? All of your idlers in good shape? SC belt tensioner still strong?

All thing that should be looked at.

mine makes the same sound...any more info on the coupler?

Drain oil, pull off snout, pull out coupler...replace and reverse...get one from ZZP. They are the indestructible green ones.

Most of the time belt coming off means a shot tensioner or bad pulley somewhere on your setup...

I haven't changed any pulley's or tensioners, I doubt they've ever been changed....I've had the car for about a year now and been fixing a lot of different stuff, and tight now thanks to college money is very tight so.....The car has about 130k on it..

Check the pulleys for play.

OR you could have been an idiot like me and not even check and see if your belt was fully on the balancer if you recently changed the belt. Mine came off the other day because of that.

My money is on a coupler for the sound and a loose tensioner for the belt.

Ok so I went to put the belt back on today and it looks too me like there isn't a tensioner pulley....as in it came off.....I don't know if that's even possible but what is there looks like there should be more to it.... The belt "overhangs" the "pulley" which is greasy....to me it looks like there should be more there....Am I wrong?? And if I'm not, where can I find a replacement?? Couldn't get pics to load I will try again later if needed....

Ok pulley has been replaced and that's good "rocks" are still there so apparently the coupler needs changed. I probably will be waiting a bit on that, is it a problem to run it as it is?

Not really...but get it fixed...it isn't GOOD for it either. Get one from ZZP like I said before.

First off, please excuse my ignorance. Second, this forum has been a ton of help to me. Thanks to all the guys with experience taking the time to share it with us.

My '04 has been making a rattle sound on acceleration. Is this the same "rolling rocks" sound you're referring to? If so, what coupler are you referring to? (nevermind, some more searching got me to this site How to replace an M90 snout coupler without removing the entire blower)

However, mine does not rattle at idle - only when accelerating (2k+ rpm). Is the sc coupler more likely than the torque converter?

If it sounds like its the supercharger, take off the supercharger belt and drive it to see if the sound is still there. If it is, well then it's something else.
