Hi, i own a 97 gtp *like the title says* and im having a few issues with it, and seeking some much needed help...

At startup the car some times seems like it wants to die, and I have had it actually die on me , the rpms seem to stay below 1K and tend to idle there throughout the cycle which is normal , but at times it actually just dies out ...

    What could this be?

Also there is alot of blue smoke comming from my exhaust and i was told it's Gas, i have noticed that there is a water trail so to speak that comes from my exhaust after i start it up and , you can smell the gas...

I have put new plugs , waiting on my wires... Coils are off my old engine, and i have a dp without the cat.. This was all going on prior to having the Dp installed .

What could be the problem? The check engine light comes on *Prior* to the dp install, it was saying (Bank 1 , too lean), now it's just saying that the cat is not present.. which is obviouse..

    Ideas, thoughts?

Bank one lean most of the time means a vacuum leak

The exhaust smells like gas though.. Not oil, and as for the Vac leak, how would i go about finding that ? I was told just start the engine, and have a can of starter fluid and spray all the hoses ... Only question i have with that would be , why did the code suddenly not show up on the ODB II, now when all that shows up is the Code for *No Cat*..

I was told by a mechanic to pull each plug out and remember where they go, he said it may have somthing to do with poor burning of the fuel and it could start right at one of the plugs.. If not that , the wires i have on the car right now arn't anything more than 2 stock sets put together becuase im waiting on my Moroso's to be shipped, so could that also have somthing to do with my problem? Or maybe a bad coil.... Or 2?

So i figured out what was wrong with the engine oil... (There is a dent in the oil pan, and well i used less oil thinking with the dent, it would leave less space for the correct ammount of oil.. Well that was deff the case but i still used almost a half quart too much...

Now with that being said should i go ahead , and change the oil again , and use 3.75 quarts and not 4.... and if so , with 145K on the car and 120ish on the engine , what should i use for oil? I put mobil 1 syn ..

why would a dent in your oil pan mean your engine know needs less lubrication than what it did from the factory?

The dent in the oil pan would not allow me to put as much oil in the pan as i would normally, i.e i ended up putting less, and even with less i still am over full.. The dent is pretty bad to begin with, doesn't have anything to do with needing less lubrication, because that's not what im saying. What i said was that i needed to put less into the engine because the pan wouldn't be able to hold as much as normal.
