So, after having a few issues with my GTP (including having to get a new engine) I finally have enough money to start modding my car

I want to start off simple, nothing over a few hundred at a time for now, and am looking at getting a CAI, or some kind of intake. I was browsing through ebay and found multiple items like -

97-03 Grand Prix SE GT GTP 3.8 3.8L V6 Ram Air Intake u:eBay Motors (item 170385479179 end time Oct-20-09 19:14:13 PDT)

(There are multiple brands and whatnot, this is just one I picked to post.)

Can anyone atest to these? They seem like they would be nice, especially for the price, but would this not be a good investment?

I was looking at cars on cardomain.com, and happened to see -
    http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3374353
And it looks like this one has the same kind of intake on it, and he says he can notice the performance increase.

    Any comments/suggestions?

Make a fwi. I don't trust eBay intakes. You can make one for around 50

You must know that I know very little about cars, even less so how to mod them

So telling me to buy an intake and mounting it on is like... telling me to part the red sea...

And I dont really want a fwi (Call me crazy, but I want to be able to open the hood and see it/show people) So I'd love a short ram air or a cai, which ever.

Ok, well I do want it to whine.

But after looking at some pics in http://www.grandprixforums.net/custom_cai.php

    (Like http://www.grandprixforums.net/websi...I/caiinst5.jpg )
It looks like the guy just took a piece of pipe and stuck a cone filter on there, is that an easy way to do it?

A 4" FWI is MUCH, MUCH louder than an ebay cai.
Friend of mine has an ebay cai, that exact one you posted, he helped me put my FWI on my car, we started it up, he yelled "holy **** that sounds sick" and built his own the next day.

If you want sound, FWI is the best way to go. If you have a GT you'll get an INSANE rumble out of it, and sounds sort of like a turbo when you begin to accelerate. If you have it GTP, you'll still get a good rumble, and that s/c will whine like a *****.

Also, just thought I'd add, if you want looks, to anyone that knows anything about cars those ebay intakes look ****ing ridiculous. It's like a 2.5 inch pipe with a giant bend it it, useless. Unless your showing it to a ricer, it'll probably like the "chrome" cuz it's shiny
If seeing the filter is a must for you just go open cone, it'll give you a good sound too.

Ok, cool, but I really care about the performance more than the sound, so if a FWI is going to give me the best performance increase, I'll do it.

And yes, I have a TON to learn about my car, I freely admit it xD

Yeah a 4" FWI will give you the best performance gain.
And if you really don't think you can build it on your own, post for one in the wanted to buy section. I'm sure you'll find someone willing to build and paint one for you. I bought mine a long time ago off a guy on here for 45 shipped and it was built really well too. And I found a brand new cone filter sitting in my garage, so I got my 4" FWI built/painted and a filter for 45 shipped, which is still like 20 less than a useless ebay intake.

Its not really the building of it that worries me, its the getting it installed that worries me...

Im a huge fan of Plug-n-Play lol
But I guess with this, I'll actually have to spend some time to get the result I want
