Forgive me if this is a silly question , however I am unable to get a definate clarification by searching so I am Posting. I am planning on dropping pulley to 3.4 soon and I have all the "supporting mods" that are needed( at least last i checked, suggestions seem to always change to make it so u need more mods before dropping" I already have headers, plugs,180, will be getting a Intense cpu and MPS. My question is every one always states CAI first as a basic mod, but what if you did not do the cai mod and left stock airbox on but still had plog ,headers ect..how much of a difference does that particular mod make when dropping pulleys? Also I currently have a HAI, (looks like ebay one with shiny pipe) on a 97 pre-coolant relocation that was on there when i bought the car. Do I HAVE TO go FWI or wizzaired first? Or should I be ok? and I know the only way to be sure is scan! Just checkin for consensus.

    Thanks

It's fine...not the best for your setup but it is better than the stock airbox.

Relocate the coolant bottle and make a FWI setup for $20 since you already have the filter.

And do you have headers, or a PLOG/DP setup? Because you said you have PLOG/Headers...you either got one or the other...and a intake makes a big difference.

Thanks for the replys so far but i still have some questions. If i dont put it in the fender, why would I kick my nadds man? I love my nadds! I know about it sucking in hot air from the engine bay, but no one ever really mentions how it would effect you if you have all the other supporting mods including headers cause its sort of a "you have to do this cause we say so kinda thing"...would it be drastically slower? woud it give KR if so will the cpu and headers fix that? or is it just for the whine? What exactly is the problem with the HAI particually the ebay style with a 3.4 and is it that much of a difference between FWI? Sorry for the intake question as I have read a number of them and I know some of you are tired of them, but I think this thread will help others like myself.

intake in the engine bay is fine.

i think why carl is saying if you stick it in the fenderwall you will kick yourself in the nads is because on the 04 and newers the fender is not full sealed off and ALOT of dirt and water gets into there. the tire throws ride grive directly into that area. so its not the best idea.

cant speak for the older generation cars.

Sorry for the mis-communication..I do have a older gen, 97 to be exact and agreed they do kick ass..Also yes the u-bend was deleted as stated I have Headers on already, stock tune HAI(ebay om pretty sure) have the 104's and the 180 thermo ready to put on but I waiting on the pcm first.

So I should be ok for now with the HAI with the mod list i stated for the 3.4 pulley? I know scan first but best educated assumptions please.. Also Intense is not to far from me that is why I was leaning twards their PCM unless their is an overwhelming DONT DO IT from the community..Please give your opinions.

I think that you should be ok, I've got the same mods except a plog/DP and have no knock as long as the car runs lower than 200*, stock tune.

actually with the hai, my intake temps were higher so my timing was being pulled by a few degrese. i did my first scan during the middle of the day after sitting at a redlight for a few mins and i went WOT after that. i saw about 18-19* of timing and little to no kr. then later that night i went back out, drive the car to the spot and went WOT with out letting the intake get heat soaked and it was seeing 20-21* or timing with up to 4-5 degrese or KR. all this on an intense pcm. so the heat might actually help keep KR down because once the IAT's get so hot, the pcm pulls timing.

the intense pcm is nothing special, i would not buy another one. they run way rich, it still knocks a decent bit and im on the stock pulley, and actually my car feels slower with it.

i would not recemend intense mail order pcms. custom tune, or overkill, or dhp 1.0 is the way to go
