My '02 is having very lean conditions as of recently. I put a short ram intake with an oiled filter on and since then the car will run very lean (it threw a P0171 bank 1 lean code), and sometimes will have a hard time idling smoothly. The rpm's will fluctuate from about 800-2100 at idle and has killed a couple times. I cleaned the MAF, TPS, and IAC sensors and this helped the idle problem but it still seems to run lean. I thought it was a vacuum problem but i checked all the lines without luck. I also get a sort of rotten egg like smell from the cat, but am not sure if this has anything to do with the issue. The spark plugs are white on the electrodes.

    Hows the O2 sensor looking?

Hows your fuel pressure? Whens the last time you changed your fuel filter?

i work at an auto parts store and throwing a lean code means u have a vacuum leak somewhere, we see those alot. could be a hose or a gasket. check them all.

I haven't checked the O2 sensor yet, I did put an A/f Ratio gauge with a splice, maybe that could affect the fuel trims? And i dont know when the fuel filter has been replaced, i ordered one from ZZP so i am going to replace that soon.

The a/f gauge ( if you installed it correctly) wont affect the fuel trims. Also im guessing you have a narrowband a/f gauge which is extremely inaccurate. I have one and it really doesn't do much.
