This is the very first time I've had ant mechanical problem with my GP. I went to leave a friends house the other night and my car wouldn't start. I had almost a full tank. It acted like it wasn't getting fuel. It kept wanting to start. Troy was still in the house i was leaving, so I called him to come out. I had tried it like 7 or 8 times. He said to give it a little gas. It started right up. He said that SOMEtimes you just need to give it a little gas. I was taught not to "pump" a fuel injected car. It really freaked me out. I parked it. I DO NOT want to be stuck anywhere. I just drove it 3 blks away to take Troy a ratchet. It did fine. Am I just paranoid?? I've had my car for 3 years I think.

The first thing that popped in my head was Fuel Filter and possibly Fuel Pressure Regulator. You should not have to give it gas to start it. In fact, on a fuel injected car I would question the effectiveness as the PCM is not even controlling anything at that point I dont think.

I guess it could be an air filter, when was the last time you changed that out?

    New fuel filter.
I have a K&N air filter. I haven't properly cleaned it. I banged it on the ground last summer I only drive it in cold/bad weather.
I just remebered, About 2 weeks ago, It wouldnt start after I filled up the tank. 3rd time started. At the time, I had the radio up and assumed that I just didn't turn the key enough.

Well I would start with cleaning the air filter. If it started when you pressed on the gas, its likely the air filter is clogged enough to prevent enough air flow for starting. I would expect, however, that a filter that clogged would also affect overall performance or make the car feel unresponsive or sluggish.

When was the last time plugs and wires were changed? That could cause an issue as well with starting. There's quite a few things that could cause a hard to start situation, so we need to rule some things out as best we can.

just a question, do you typically turn the key to run, wait a second or two for the fuel pump to prime or no?

Just for the information point, When you depress the accelerator pedal while cranking a modern fuel injected car, It actualy pulls fuel by shortening the IPW, this is why a flodded Fuel injected car will start easier with the throttle open

On the newer cars there is a fuel drain back valve for the return line. Next time it happens. Turn the ket to run let the pump prime turn key off. Key back to run let prime turn key off turn key back to run let prime if ot fires up after the third time then the pumps slowly dying. And you need to wait at least 5 seconds between cycles so the pump will cycle on. And for those of you who think i am full of it on this one what I have said came from the mouth of a 20+ year ase tech that works on my gp when i can't fix it

Not to poke a cattle prod in your eye or anything, but if you had a tendency to post more useful stuff like this (provided it is accurate information) there would be little question as to whether you are full of crap or not. Calling into question the experts that are on this forum that do make their living doing certain things (drive train, mechanical, electrical, etc) does call your input into question and lowers your reputation on this forum.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again here, I would much rather see you become a productive and informative member of this community instead of receiving complaints and building up information that leads to infractions and eventual banning.

Keep posting decent stuff like you did in this case and I'll be the first to click on your reputation and give you props. Keep doing as you have and I will continue on my current venture.

If you look at your engine from the front, and see your fuel rail, you will see a sort of round device connected to the fuel rail that has a vacuum line running to it. That is the fuel pressure regulator. And it, well, regulates your fuel pressure using the vacuum connection.
