ive got a 98 gtp and the only things ive done to it are custom fwi, autolite 605's, and a 180 tstat...talked to a mechanic and he asked y i was running a 180 and colder plugs...which would i get better performance with? also im looking at doing the ubend delete and wondering if there is any noticable gains? possibly removing resinator 2...let me know what you guys think. thanks!

    READ Safely Modding Your 3800.

    Then read it again...

Don't take out the resonator and take out the U-Bend...btw. Search stuff.

the mechanic is right. you have no reason for the thermostat or the plugs right now.

Colder t-stat is only efficient if you have your PCM tuned to make the fans turn on at a lower temp.

The colder plugs are good if your car is getting Knock, if your pulley is stock you don't have to worry about either the plugs or thermo just yet.

Ubend is good but the exhaust manifolds (mainly the front) is restrictive so you will only see mild gains, aka less then 5WHP.

Keep your res in, it isn't restrictive and the car sounds much better with it. I removed mine because it was broken and i hate the rasp i get out of it.

If your young and on a budget.

    Get a 180* T-Stat anyways...they are only like 8 bucks.
Get new Autolite 606 Spark plugs/lifetime wires...around $50 for all of it.
Make your own cold air intake of sorts...for around $50 or so.
Get a 3" Bolt in catless downpipe...most expensive...around $200 with new gaskets but it is WAY worth it.

So...$300 for nearly a half a second in the quarter mile? IMO good deal.

They do sound really really nice without the resinator, but also if you remove the 2 rear mufflers and just run straight pipes to the rear, it also sounds really nice and is still legal since the resinator is technically a muffler. I think its better that way. but ya.

    I agree.

All i have for exhaust is a 3" catted DP, u-bend delete and res delete (not by choice) and i still get an obnoxious rice sound at times.

Keep the res at all costs.

If you're going to take out the res put in a long glasspack in it's place. I put in a 3" catted ZZP DP, took out the res and put a 28" thrush glasspack in its place and then replaced my mufflers with Dynomax Turbos. It sounds great. No rasp at all and it's very deep.

Gonna have to post some videos sometime I think.
