Blower install tips, hints.

This weekend i will be installing my new P& P blower that i got from Brian. The install seems moderately straightforward however so do most automotive modifications that wind up being a PITA.

Are their any things i should know or do for the install:

Should i drain some coolant out of the radiator because it runs through the S/C?

Also can i reuse my S/C fluid? i changed it only 2k-3k miles ago?

Can i reuse my throttle body gasket? (i already have a new blower gasket. )

Are their any seals that i need to replace or ones that cannot be switched over from the old to the new blower?

If it is a polished blower I think he already puts new fluid in it IIRC...if not then you will have to change it after a 1,000 or so miles anyways because of the metal particles still floating around in there...might as well get a new TB gasket anways as they are like 4 bucks last I checked. Don't worry about the coolant...it runs through the LIM mostly, you shouldnt have any issues...just be sure to clean off all the old gasket very well before installing.

Just undo your intake and take off the throttle cables and CC, then unplug everything around it...remove the blower belt...undo the 4 nuts that hold the fuel rails on...pop those off and be careful...sometimes gas spills out, sometimes not...mine doesn't all the time. Then you'll undo the 10? I thnk blower bolts from the LIM and yank it off...hope this helps...I've gotten it down to about 10-20 minutes.

i have been reusing my same TB gasket since i bought the car. no coolant = no broken gasket EVER.

You should upgrade to the LS1 so you don't have to even use a gasket

Will i encounter any difficulty separating the snout from the blower? Or installing the snout and the business parts of the S/C inside the new blower?

Why would you pull the blower apart? Is the rotor pack not polished?

That's correct.

Oh, gotcha...just rip it apart when it is off...if you don't care about a mess then take the snout off...just pull it off...if you do care...then drain the oil out first.

Make sure you follow the correct detorquing sequence. I did a zig zag pattern turning the bolts 1/4 turn at a time but still warped the S/C.

-Clean your engine before doing this work. Make sure the area around the injectors are fairly clean
-You may be able to reuse the gasket if it doesnt fall apart.
-No coolant fluid flows through the sc but it is blocked off by the sc (notice the yellow o-rings)
-I usually pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running to drain the fuel pressure. Put a rag around the valve on the fuel rail and push the pin in with an allen key or other suitable tool. Make sure to wrap a rag around the injector when disconnecting it from the rail. Fuel will spill out.
-It's recommended that you purchase new injector o-rings. They're dirt cheap.
-You may want to consider a silicone gasket from TDC Racing if you have sealing issues
-Metal particles may be in the bottom of your SC gear box. Spend the extra $15 and replace the fluid

If their are any other torque specifications i should know about for this job that would be appreciated also.

I was told 15 ft/lbs. I'll be taking my blower apart today to replace the red RTV with anaerobic sealant. Woohoo! (sarcasm)

Blower to manifold is 17ftlbs I can't find one for the snout to the case.

I'm still waiting to install it, after talking to a few people on here and a fabricator who specializes in aluminum welding i have decided to epoxy the silencer slots. Still waiting for the epoxy to arrive, i had to special order it.

Unless i am in some sort of rush i would like to create a write up of this with some cool pictures.

Not in this case. The aluminum housing is very easy to warp if not torqued properly, causing the rotors to bind because of the tight clearances.

Not really true. Find me hard evidence.

I've torqued my blower all sorts of different ways and just do it tight. No ill effects.
