Hey guy just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with a re accuring problem. 1997 grand prix gt. 3.8 naturally aspirated engine. I've recently been having a problem with the temperture of the engine. it usually stays around 210 when running and already warmed up. now sometime it'll spike to 260 the TEMP light will come on. it hasn't ever shut off. i know both fans are working, new water pump, radiator, been through 1000 flushes and fills. My question is that i have a crack on the plastic cap to the antifreeze resiviour. Now when i turn the car off if i physically look inside of the bottle i can see it boiling . very nasty smell. could the air that getting inside of the resivour be getting into my colant system and cause the overheating?

    either:

    a) the thermostat is sticking

    OR

    b) since the radiator cap is cracked, the system cant pressurize and remove heat effectively

    i suggest you check both.

Or you have air in the system. Use the bleader screw on the thermostat housing.

ive had alot of the same problems with my 97 gt and i found a crack in the plastic tank on the driver side and what happens is when its not having proper pressure it boils , and for a quick fix i put 30 min epoxy on the crack and put a bottle of bars leak and knock on wood (knock knock) i havent had any issues with it going past 210 on the factory guage ... my other temp reads about 200 . Had to go for the rig cause i called advance auto and the radiator was like 260 bucks and kinda broke dont mix
