Yes it's safe. But that's about it. It's not going to give you any more power. It will help the longevity of your engine though at best.

If you have your fans programmed for a 160 your still going to see 180's in the city. The highwy is the only place where you will notice it running cooler than normal.

idk some of the muscle car guys say its best to run around 195-200 for the engine's sake. says that is when the oil is heated up the best to full lubercate.

this is what he had to say about it, it was for a turbo guy but same concept.

Detonation needs to be controlled with octane and proper fueling/timing. Running a block too cool can lesson ring seal and cause piston scuffing as the piston to cylinder wall clearance may not be tight enuff on a cold motor. 200 degs is good for the track. Hot oil also allows the turbo to spool faster...hot tranny fluid allows the converter to stall higher as well. If you arent running hot, work on keeping those IATs down.

i run the stock thermo right now and my car does not get all that hot.

thats exactly what my dad siad. he has a 350sb chevy and he runs at 195 all day and says it runs fantastic. but my car hates being hot. i dont need to be stallin any higher as i have a 3800 stall converter. lol. of course i have a huge trans cooler for it. and i love the stall. many people said that it is waaaaaay too big. my car just runs its best when its cold. im gonna try the thermo for a lil. see what happens.

It hates being hot because your boosted...what mods are you running? Are you knocking? Might be why your car is running like crap, not the temp.

i have the 3.4 pulley, ported heads/sc/tb, tb spacer, tb heat shield, 3in catlees dp, fwi, msd wires, now a 160 thermo and it runs a whole lot better. but it needs to be tuned bad. i just got a trans out of an 01 le sabre, non hd, which means its a 2.86 gear. so its no shifting right. once i put the hd diff in then it will be a 3.29. im going this thursday to indianapolis to PRJ performance to get it tuned.
