I could just ask the question, but the story seems worth a few lines.

Was waiting in the drive through line at the local BK when i heard a funny sound. It was hot and i had the AC cranking, so i turned off the AC. Within a few seconds I smelled the all to familar smell of burning antifreeze (had some issues with an old ford ranger's heater core). Right away i saw the temp gauge start to rise farther than it had ever gone before. After turning the car off and on a few times to make it through the line, i pulled over in the parking lot.

The car is leaking what looks to be a dirty brown liquid. Kinda confused me at first, but it is the antifreeze. The belt was also loose, not broken. I grabbed the WP pulley and it moves around in ways it should not.

So i am pretty positive i need a new WP. the brown liquid also makes me think i need a good flush. Hence the questions:

    1. Should i flush the system with the old WP in place? i can't run the engine because the belt will just fall off.

    2. I plan on replacing the thermostat and belts while doing this, anything else i should replace while i have everything apart?

    3. Any suggestions on removing the rust from the water lines?

Should start fixing over the holiday weekend. any help is appreciated.

Liquid brown sounds like coolant and oil to me...

i checked the oil, no antifreeze, no milkiness. I have read that rust in the lines turns old antifreeze brown.

Hope your not right, never had any other issues with this car other than needing a new battery.

Yup corrosion in the radiator or anywhere else in the cooling system. Not to mention that red Dex-cool crap turns that color pretty quickly anyway. Replace the water pump and do a cooling system flush after that.
