any updates on this? Has all been well with the car? Have you taken it to ZZP or the trannyman and if so, what did you all have done to it?
No! I didn't get sent to the Zanesville job liked I hope! But I did go ahead and replace the coupler. So far the only thing on my car that is different is the FWI!
EDIT: Do you think I could run ANY of my mods safely without a tune?

not to scare you, but i kinda wonder if maybe you have a chipped piston... and what you had heard was the part of the piston bouncng around in the cylinder, and it eventually made it's way out the exhaust.....
now that the coupler has been replaced, have you had any more issues? What mods are you thinking of trying to run without a tune? Obviously, for best results a tune would be necessary, but other than trying to change your pulley size, most exhaust and intake mods are acceptable. Maybe have to change plug heat ranges, but it depends on what exactly your plans are.........let us know.....
If any of the tips of the plugs are bent then it is a piston. If not then your fine. I am pretty sure it was just a lifter not priming and clattering around in there.
I have EVERYTHING to do the 3.4 pulley. I have a VS Cam and SLP Headers. And all the basic supporting mods. I also picked up a 05PCM for 75bucks. The only thing stopping me from putting everything on is the fact I dont have a tune. I been waiting around saying im going to get a HPTuner but havent yet! I have a EFILive Tuner for the camaro and it can SCAN my car but thats it. Im just really worried to send my PCM off and HOPE someone does what I need them to do! Or order one online. I been trying to find someone local with a HP and pay them to do it..I will be able to watch them and actually adjust stuff as I drive the car. I just dont want my crap to mess up! lol Guess thats the women in me! lol
EDIT: I have a 07 grand prix..with the GEN V..I have been told by MANY people its not a great idea to drop the pulley size without headers and cam...I have all of that...my whole thing is could I do it without a tune and not knock my way down the road!
Cam and headers is enough for a 3.4" drop on a Gen V...I know this...THANKS JESS FOR GETTING THE RIGHT SUPPORTING MODS FOR YOUR PULLEY SIZE!! You = awesome so I didn't have to post up telling someone their car is going to be crap because they drop to a 3.4" with a T-Stat
honestly........I don't know for sure either........and I would personally play it safe vs. getting a new motor. Good luck though.........hopefully you can find someone to tune for you. See if you can ask someone in your regional clubs if they know of anyone that may be able to help you.......I know the nearest tuner to me is 3+ hrs.......so I hear ya there........
Have you checked on the regional section of this site yet?
Well...you could do it right before Branson in Sept. and limp it up there for a tune As the most knowledgeable 3800 owners in the country will be there.
lol, Ya I thought about maybe going ahead and getting the cam and headers on there...and then doing the pulley swap when I get there...BUT! Im a good 4hrs from Branson..SOOOO!!! But then I thought maybe trailer it up there and do it. Not sure yet..I was PRAYING to have it all ready by then.
