What is the EGR? What does it do? See a lot of people talking about removing theirs and just not sure what it is. Thanks

it recirculates exhaust gases into the intake to keep cylinder temperatures down when you are cruising. anytime youre into the throttle it does nothing. also helps with a little bit of gas mileage.
i know what youre thinking. how in the hell do hot exhaust gases make cylinder temperatures lower? physics, that's how. just trust me on this one. dont feel like going into the whole shpeal about how it works.
The exhaust gas is inert so it doesn't burn. It just acts as filler. This means less oxygen and fuel in the cylinders to heat up the combustion chamber. This reduces the specific heat capacity of the mix resulting cooler burn temps. It helps to fill out the cylinder and provide something for the oxygen/fuel mixture to push against, allowing you to use as little fuel as possible. Lower temps mean fewer nitrous oxide formations, which thrive in hotter temps and are a pollutant.
What that means is that you can get better MPG and potentially less pollutants. There's your physics.
BTW, I had mine removed.
Ah, ok. Thanks guys. If i ever get the chance to send the m90 to be ported then i'll probably do it then. That wont be for a long time that i know of though, lol. Sucks being a broke college kid
No...it is worse when you're NOT in school and your broke![]()
