Thread: Water in Oil

My 97 GTP starting pumping oil out of the dipstick tube (dipstick is cracked on the top) today because the oil is filled with water. The engine wasn't missing, and appeared to be running fine. My initial thought was head gasket, but after reading several of the posts here I'm thinking it may be an intake gasket. This is my first FWD, V-6 car and my first Supercharged vehicle, so are there any tell-tale signs that would point to one over the other??

I am def no expert at this, but just a few months after i bought my 99 gt, it started acting up on me, stuttering and driving very poorly!! It got to the point where i would floor it and it would only go about 40 mph, no matter what i tried!! Well not to soon after that it died and would not start!! So my buddy and i got to looking around in the engine compartment to try to see what was wrong with it, and lo and behold we found water in the oil!! So we tore it apart and found that the air intake manifold had melted a small hole in it, and was letting water into the engine!!!! A very common problem i found out on these v6 gm engines, as well as the gaskets being made poorly! So i bought a new intake and gasket, and after a few hours.... problem solved Also i found at O'rielly's a company that has helped to fix the poor made gasket problem... Fel-pro a thicker, better made gasket!! Really makes no sense to me why gm would use plastic as an intake on the engine, but thats what it is.... probably so we will have to keep buying parts.....money hungry bastards!! Also i noticed that your car is a gtp. Recently in the mail i recieved a letter that there was a recall on our cars due to engine fires!! Well i took my gtp to the dealership, even though the letter was for my gt! they looked it up and told me there was also a recall on the gtp also, said it would take about 15 min to put in some type of retainer on the spark plug wires and i would b good to go right!! About an hour and a half later the mechanic came to the waiting area, and said sorry it was taking so long but he realized after they got it back there that the recall on the gtp's was not the retainer, but the head gaskets, and thats why it was taking so long!! So i figure if it is the head gasket, rather than pay for it, take it to a dealership and they will fix it for free Anything to get your money back out of them is good with me lol!! actually the recall on GTP's due to engine fire is the Valve Cover Gasket (front) i had mine done about 2 month ago.... thats for 2000 gtps at least...
