I too have a leaky grand prix... a 2000 gtp and this bit of your information came in very handy... THANK YOU!!! I had a hard time with that darn rear valve cover. I loosened it like you said and it wiggled right off!!! Thank!!

im going to agree with pottery. Im going to dive in both my vc gaskets tomorrow. If i didnt see the info about leaning the motor id probly get stuck And if you have any new info on how that 1200 degree paint held up id love to know!.
I know this is bumping an old thread, but I wanted to thank everyone who posted here. Without this thread, I'm sure my car would still be sitting crippled in the garage.
I was working with another guy, and it probably took us longer than most, because we'd never really seen the guts of this engine and we wanted to get it back together right on the first try. Did both gaskets, plugs and wires, took about 10 hours with lunch and 2 parts runs (including arguments with an O'Reilly employee) and a lot of cleaning up from years of oil seepage.
Didn't break either coolant elbow, but we replaced them anyway since this thread convinced us to have them on-hand.
To tilt the engine forward, pushing the car forward and locking the e-brake worked really well for us.
