Thread: oil filter s-belt clearance

Yeah, its always been pretty close. That said, ZZP sells a spacer kit to kinda give you some more clearance. Its uncomfortably close to me. Ive never heard of any real trouble with it, but I still dont like it.

The other option is to use a remote oil filter mounting kit and move all that else where, like up behind the bumper.

I havet had a problem with it..I bought the SFI dampner and noticed it increased the space to a good half inch. I just dont have any space between my power steering pulley and the oil filter housing....

I would like to see some pictures of that. I thought I had seen that ZZP mentioned they made their spacer to deal with use of the SFI dampener. I could be wrong, wont be the first time.

Yeah, I know that mine is close, but it never touches the filter. And like UR LOSIN said....when dealing with tolerances, that is more than enough room between the two. And I have never heard of anyone else ever having a problem with it either.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I do agree with UR LOSN and Zef, as much as I dislike it being that close, I have yet to hear of anyone having issues. My preference is just to not have things so close to rotating assemblies, particularly something like the oil filter.

I would have preferred that they used a shorter filter and turned the alignment more verticle, but Im sure that would have presented issues with suspension travel.

I personally like the filter hanging straight down. It allows me to fill the oil filter with oil before I put it on. And allows me to drain the oil easier and cleaner. I am glad the oil filter sits as it does. And while I too would like it further away. I have not heard of even on instance where the pulley caused any rubbing, let alone a hole in the oil filter. It just doesn't happen.

I agree and I too like being able to prefill my filters. But me being me, I look at that and I think of scenarios in which things could go terribly wrong and then want to take precautions to try and prevent that.

That said, again, it is a testament to some good engineering that there has not been any issues with it as it is.

Its not that bad.

If you worry about things like this happening...you need a new hobby. You are probably more likely to get in an accident than have this happen to you.
