Re: SS intercooler from ZZP
Ok man, I ain't trying to really bust your ass here...in all honesty I can see where you coming from but you post up talking like headers were a De-MOD. Nothing flows better than headers, bar done...I dont care if you have the best ported manifolds and 3" Downpipe setup on the planet...you are still going to see more gains from headers...and as for the changing to headers and your car dyno-ing a same Hp rating...ZZP is just bad...the people that tune there don't know a thing and that is why I lost my first motor...4 PCM's from them and it was still fugged up. I'm also not knocking the Intercooler setup...IC is great idea...but not the SSIC...for the money...you can get rockers and tune your car and go just as fast IMO. Maybe not have such a small pulley but who cares if you can tune ;) And even with a 3.2" pulley you are still going to have to shell out money for a PLOG, Ported Rear (Not Worth it), Ceramic Coated Crossover (FAIL), and a 3" Downpipe...and there you have enough money for a set of Pacesetter's. I'd buy them all over again...you just have to RTV every end. I also got bigger bolts for the front header/crossover, welded the collector and used new GM metal gaskets...not that paper bullcrap. And for the mods before IC's and headers...people were just either not modding GTP's or dropping pulley sizes and not thinking about supporting mods and blowing up motors...that is why we have such a huge community today...people got smart, started modding right (for the most part) and we have all of these awesome products at our disposal.
Hope you understand where I am coming from.
Re: SS intercooler from ZZP
i agree 110% that headers flow the best. no disagreement, i just dont think its necessary for say a rocker setup. i just dont. i know the stock manis are useless for anything but stock. even stock theyre dangerous. i got pacesetters, used stock manifold gaskets, copper rtv'd the piss out of them, got the y welded. my problem was at the dumbass 3 bolt collector flange. no matter what i did it leaked. thats just me, and i was getting sick of asking my boss to use the lift at work once a month cuz it was f'd up again. i changed my goals with the car so thats why i gave up on them and sold them. as far as the intercooler, its something that ive contemplated too. seeing what hp numbers and what timing/ pulley combo they are able to run, i dont think the ssic is 100% useless. yes it sounds like it heat soaks a lot more than the full size, but ide be willing to compensate that for half the price (talking new). of course if you could get a good used stage 2 or 3 for ~600, youde be a fool to not jump on it. i would only run the short stack if i was only gonna go rockers MAYBE vs cam. xp, s1x, or anything else that i was gonna run a 2.9 or smaller pulley on (providing you still have ~18*timing) yeah, ide go the big one no question. in the end it all comes down to the goals, and sticking to them so you dont waste money doing things twice, or going overboard cuz everyone says "go big or go home". i was just tryin to put a little positive on the ssic, in case the OP hasnt looked into it to see what people's cars are capable of that have it. thats all :th_winking:
Re: SS intercooler from ZZP
i like my headers... i know there a supporting mod so thats why i didnt expect much right away but i have plans on alot more boost. i will say that i lost a tad (not much) low end but i did gain that pull in the mid to top end(quite noticeable) so headers are great if you want to go farther then just one pulley from stock.
