I want to add a few horse power, but mainly to get a nice low grumble sound.. so that people know I have some power under the hood,, what is the best for a reasonable budget... i was looking at spending around 300-800 dollars for a total exhaust system... any thoughts? I do love the rumble sound, but not to loud or overbearing.... chris

You can get the GMPP system for $511 from Paceperformance. I have the GMPP on my car, it sounds ok. I think PFYC has a Dynomax catback for under $500. Reptile has Dynomax mufflers on his XP cam'd car and it sounds pretty nice at idle. However to be honest, the louder a V6 is the worse it sounds. My XP cam helped out quite a bit with the exhaust note, but you still can hear the farty V6 sound above 2000 rpm. I would give anything to have my stock exhaust back.

Are you planning on modding your engine? How much you do this depends on if you even need the catback. I have borlas on my car with the resonator, stock manifolds and cat still on and it sounds good to me, it should help w/ a lil horsepower and they are only about 70 bux a piece on ebay.

I am going to have a couple of exhaust clips coming up for our database project, so if you haven't done anything by then, maybe it will help you in your decision.
1) with stock everything except borlas.
2) everything stock except no resonator and borlas
3) TOGs, no cat, no resonator, and borla mufflers
4) eventually #3 w/ an xp cam added

I bought Borla Pro XS mufflers for about $85 each, some ebay stainless tips for $35, and had a custom 3" SS mandrel bent system installed locally for around $400. So I have a very nice system for little cash, and I think this is the way to go.

i would love for a mandrel bent 2.5" with cat, huge resonator/glasspack, and some smooth sounding mufflers.

i have pretty much that right now, but i have flowmasters. i must say, they are too loud for me. all i want to hear is blower wine and engine noise. therefore, i might end up going back to a stock one or making my own custom.

That is where I bought my mufflers at and I absolutely love them! I think they are the best sounding mufflers for these cars that I have heard.

i realize everyone likes a different sound, but i want one that is quieter, that you will basically only hear when you're behind the car (aka honda drivers) Nothing too flashy, but a nice sound that isn't overpowering--thats what the supercharger is there for

I'm thinkin magnaflow mufflers or those Borla XS
anyone have sound clips of borla/magnaflow mufflers?

You cant really hijack a thread that is 8 months old, and our cars already have a cat with little restriction so the delete would not do too much. Many would say a high flow cat is pointless. If you get rid of the cat, sound wise, you will notice more rasp.

i have flowmasters which came on the car from the previous owner. i must say it sounds decent. On my grand am 3.4L v6 i put on the flowmaster 80series and it sounded awesome. i dont know why alot of people bash flowmasters on these cars(GP's). I eventually will probably change them but its not on my priority list as i need new tires for my 18" rims, and want headers and a cam setup eventually and obviously will need another tune. so thats alot of dough$$ for a part time worker at harveys :P cause im only a highschool student.

Because they do sound crappy...99% of Chambered mufflers do sound like sh1t. Reason being...90* 3.8 Liter V6 vs. a properly degreed 60* 3.4 V6...the 3.1/3.4 sound worlds better.

here is why i hate flowmasters (yes i had them on my car): they drone, they are raspy, and are the wrong 'tone' for a v6. these cars sound best with a muffler that makes the exhaust note 'smooth'.

I deleted the mufflers and the resonator, I added a 26" glasspack and I'm in love with the sound, deep low rumble!!!

But with that kind of money you could get speed daddy headers and magnaflow/borla mufflers...just my 2 cent
