Thread: Coolant System Flush

Ok, I think I may have gotten in over my head on this. I was attempting to switch my Dex-Cool antifreeze with Prestone green. Not knowing how to removing the knock sensors to drain the block I figured I would just keeping draining the radiator, fill with water, run for 15 minutes, and repeat till it was clear. Well...... after doing this a half dozen times its still coming out orange.

Can someone tell me how to remove the knock sensors so I can get this job done and my GP back running. This afternoon project is turning into a two day nightmare.

Consider getting one of those Prestone Flush kits, and use a short piece of heater hose to install the flush T temporarily into one of the heater lines. Then flush it until the water comes out clear.

Another thought. When you go back in with the new AF, consider the Preston Global amber colored GO5 coolant that is lifetime rated.

I agree that the Dexcool is problematic, but I will run it while my GT is under warranty.
Once that is done, I will make the switch to the GO5, and not worry about it.

You're right, I think the kit may be my best bet. I didn't want to go down that road at first and have to cut my heater hose, until you gave me the idea of using a short piece of hose as a temp hook up. Now if I can only get it to stop raining in PA I'll be able to work on this.

I've heard some bad things about DEX-COOL myself whats the best Antifreeze to switch to. I have 30,000 miles on a 07 GP SC.

I vote for switching to any of the new G05 coolants. Thay are long life, and suposed to be compatible with just about any vehicle and older tech AF.

I went went with the Prestone Global amber colored coolant which is billed as being a "for life" fill.

I had this in the 2001 Durango I recently parted ways with, and it was quite trouble free.

Thanks for the correction. I guess I have gotten my "Ps" mixed up. It is indeed the PEAK Global I was referring to. I like the fact that is is compatible with all other makes (according to them), and also that it will last as long as I should want.
