The 1626 code is a Theft deterent code and will shut the fuel off on the car. The 1610 is a loss of communications with the BCM.

When you put your key in the ignition, the BCM confirms its a valid key via the pellet in the key. Once that is done it sends a password to the PCM and if it matches the PCM will enable the fuel system.

Now, that all said, what the issue could be Im not sure. Theres the key, the PCM, the BCM and hanging off the key cylinder is the receiver I guess you would call it that I believe communicates with the key pellet, so that could be bad I suppose.

I wish I could be more help, but if it were me I would start with the BCM (Body Control Module because of the 1610 code. Im not sure what could be done to confirm if that is the culprit though.

You have a spare key? maybe? Try it and see if it makes a difference. Probably the least likely situation here but its easiest to test out.

I have no experience with the GS cars. But with a grand prix, without the codes, the symptoms would be that of a bad fuel pump resistor. May try to do the fuel pump resistor mod and see if that helps. Maybe because the car isn't staying started, the codes are being thrown.

didnt think the regals used the resistor, but could be wrong... seems it could be the key/resistor (dirty-- the resistor pelet doesnt go bad) or the contacts in the ignition switch going bad.

I have no clue if they use the resistor or not. As I said, I don't have experience with regals. But on a Grand Prix, the symptom that would point towards the fuel pump resistor is that he can keep the car running over 3k RPMs. If it was something with security, everything would be shut off and the car wouldn't run at all. Just my thoughts.
