    Let's play guess the cause.

New fuel pump went in Tuesday a.m. It "hums", like the same frequency as one of those huge lights in a parking lot. No problems yesterday until last night when the light kicked on. Used 1/4 of a tank of gas to drive 13 miles today.

I could list my mods, but Sideways has an ungodly list. I dare not try to compete.

Going after work today to check the code. Aftermarket pump. I believe Airtex. I would've had to wait a day for GM. Which is unacceptable. Question is where's the leak? I can see it now. Driving down the road and the car blows up. At least my life insurance is paid, right?

Is there a leak? I mean, just because you went through that much gas doesn't mean there is a leak. Can you see it? Smell it?

Best thing would be to find out what the light is...but you knew that.

If I had to guess, I would say it is something with the evap system that you didn't seal the tank up correctly. Hey, I'm just guessing here.

Did you do any other work at the same time?

No, just the fuel pump. I can smell it around that rear tire, but I can't see it coming out from anywhere.

If it's the stupid gas cap (shut up Sideways) I swear I will scream. I've been through 2 gas caps in the past year for not sealing right.

I haven't done a fuel pump in a long time. but I would say that the lines are not seated correctly into the pump assembly. (Now that you provide more information). But again, what do I know...Since it is easy enough to get to, try pulling off the access panel and seeing if there is any gas seeping out anywhere that you can see.

Well, no...it's not that easy to do, which was the problem in the first place. I have all that audio hardbolted. I was kinda' hoping you would say gas cap.

Ah...yeah, that stuff....Well, I would think gas cap, but that usually doesn't kill your MPG. Just sends an SES code. Could just be coincidence though....Always easiest to try the gas cap first.

By chance, did you try to screw the cap on a few times? Like make it click a couple turns around. Really make sure it is set. Push hard, etc?

are you sure the thing was seated all the way? When I pulled mine it didn't seat completely at first, and was very loud (not sure on mileage as I wondered what I broke)

    Okay. Well, here's the update.

I always click the gas cap 5 times, mostly because I don't trust just the three or four. So, it's not the gas cap and hasn't been the gas cap, which I wish it would've been because that's what a $7 GM part?

Went in had the darned thing scanned. Apparently, the fuel pressure was off. The car had been accustomed to the failing fuel pump, so when it started getting fed the right amount of fuel it was reading it as too much. So we cleared all of that out to make it learn the right amount.

As of right now, my fuel gauge reads that I have a 1/4 tank, which is the same that I had before I put 11.36 gallons in. The DIC says I have 156 miles left on range at roughly 25 mph. Don't get me wrong. I like having that 25 back as opposed to the 18-22 it was saying before, but I don't like not really knowing how much fuel I have. I am going by now the 1.2 gallons the DIC says I've used since my last fill, so I'm guessing I have really right around 10.

What are the chances it has been the sending relay unit this entire time and what are the chances I got a bad unit with the new aftermarket pump?

Still doesn't explain the fuel smell.

did you make sure the rubber gasket was sealed all the way when you slid the new assembly in? vapors could get out of the tank.....or evap is messed up
