i have a whistling/metal grinding coming from under the hood...its belt driven for sure almost sounds like a rubbing ac compressor clutch....but its winter and i havent used ac in forever can it just randomly go bad or is it something else....its real loud high pitched squealing/grinding noise it annoys the hell out of me it also sometimes goes away when i rev the engine...any ideas?

More than likley it is one of you're pulleys. You'll justhave to listen real close to find out. Ow else wait a little longer and usually the pulley will eventually fall off off the bearing

i think i found the culprit its the bigger of the two idler pulleys on the sc belt acc it has a bunch of play in and out and it squeaks too im assuming the pulleys are not supposed to have that much play so i hope its cheap and an easy fix...looks super simple but it is a torx bit so you never know lol

They shouldn't have any play at all IMO

That is mostly likely your problem

I had that sound tonight after work when I started my car. I am going to see if it is there again in the morning. It went away with a rev.
