I've owned my '99Grand Prix for about 10 days now. Got in the car, started her up and noticed in my dash the words PERF SHIFT. First question is "what is PERF SHIFT ?" Why did it appear ?

    Car Info:
1999 Grand Prix GTP Supercharged 2-Door Coupe

Note: I just discovered my gear selector has a button on the left side that illuminates
    PERF SHIFT on and off.
Still need to know the what, why, and how about it please.

its got a bit higher shift points and i think the torque converter files maybe set to slip a bit more as well. its the go baby go button but with out all the hp lol

it changes the shift RPM and line pressure for quicker/firmer shifting.
I leave mine on all the time to save the transmission, with it off the trans will shift slower by applying less pressure which slips a little more.

My 97 says performance shift on the dic. I leave it on at all times. I never know when I'll have piss off a cocky mustang owner.

Side note: if your cruising around 40 to 50 mph keep the gear selector in 3rd gear. At about 45 mph your car will shift between 3rd and 4th. Doing so wears on some trans parts.

My kids love it when in 3rd gear and I mash the gas

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new to you coupe!
