    Greetings all. Happy New Year.

The idler pulley on my '02 GTP broke today, so I picked up a new pulley and both belts.

I am thinking about replacing both the supercharger and accessory tensioner assemblies as well. I do not have a service manual and cannot tell is there is an accessory belt idler pulley, but if I can see one tomorrow in the daylight, I will replace it also.

But first, did I purchase the correct supercharger idler pulley? I bought the grooved Gates p/n # 38009. The remains of the pulley that broke is no where to be seen, so I don't know if I need the grooved or non-grooved part. Did I get the right one?

As for the tensioner assemblies, it looks like Gates p/n # 38365 for the supercharger and p/n # 38271 for the accessory belt.

The installation of the supercharger assembly looks pretty straight forward, other than maybe needing a special tool.

The accessory belt assembly looks a little more troublesome. From the pics it looks like it may serve more than one purpose. If so, what else does it do? What are the two 90 degree fittings for? Wondering if I may be opening up a can of worms here. You know, working in my driveway in the winter.

Is there an idler pulley for the accessory belt?

And do I need any special tools?

Any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Scott

Update: I found the belt routing diagram on the radiator support and it looks like there is not an idler pulley for the accessory belt. One question answered.

However there are two idler pulleys for the supercharger belt. The one that is broken is the small pulley closest to the front of the car. The other idler pulley and the tensioner pulley both spin relatively freely. No wobble or grinding sound while spinning with my hand.

The bearing that remains on the shaft of the smaller idler pulley does not spin at all - like it is frozen. Think that's why the pulley broke?

I had no idea there was a problem with that pulley. The pulley's bearing actually. No clues that there was something wrong at all until it gave up the ghost.

I'll bet it is going to be a pita getting that bearing off the shaft.

Thanks for the pic, mguzzo. It confirmed that the grooved pulley was in fact the pulley that I needed.

I just now replaced the pulley and belts and will call it good for now. That tensioner assembly looks to be a bit of a bear to replace. Never seen anything like it.

    Anyway the job is done.

    Thanks again,

    Scott
