Re: 99 GTP, two issues at once. Are they related?
I wish! No choke. Under 50° I prime the carb. Fill float bowls through vents with air cleaner lid off and using small squeeze bottle of gas from the mower's can. Still have to crank on it a bit. I did make a vid yesterday but not with my pipes pointing into the garage like yers. If you can answer the second riddle I will see about uploading it:
Why was my alternator light on? Thats where this adventure began.
I suppose I'll put some pants on and go check 3rd brake light bulbs in the GT while I'm on a roll. haha
Re: 99 GTP, two issues at once. Are they related?
damn the grape has been parked longer then i thought then lol
other then bad cables or a bad plug at the alt. im at a loss. as long as its showing its charging over 13 volts. it should be a good alt. and if the battery tests good.
Re: 99 GTP, two issues at once. Are they related?
I drove it to work Monday because it was 70° out. Sat since then. Outdoors with open element breather plus no choke means dry bowls after about day two. And of course, mechanical fuel pump and vented tank with modern gas. Does that. I may stick that vid somewhere later and consider the idiot light to have been caused by poor connections at battery ends of cables. I think I spilled coolant on the hot post too many times. It has the cover snapped over it but when coolant and terminal grease get together... I had to scrape funk. Hopefully the battery looking light will go back to being a stranger but you are right, I ought to go confirm voltage now. No reason to suspect battery trouble, really. Kinda strange deal but the car thrives on neglect so I have come to expect occasional retaliation from it.

she still looks and sounds great man.
Re: 99 GTP, two issues at once. Are they related?
Bill would have bent the tab and left it that way, cause that's what he did when he pulled into the neighbors driveway and it died...then wouldn't start for more than a few seconds. Bent tab, car fired up and I never looked back.
On the alt, since you swapped it, you know the connection is clean and good. I don't think your year has the stupid ring around the positive battery cable. I think that was 04+ and I think that's an engine light, not alt/battery light. Hmmmm I'd check cables, doesn't the alt cable start out at the top of the fuse box?

Exactly what I did, even though my dremel with cutoff wheel was right there plugged in. Google sent me to a post where a guy wigged in an essay on running the pump like that and you provided the voice of reason. Thanks, Bill and Scotty both fer shur. The GT is likely to need that mod in the near future. I looked at those 1141 bulbs today SD, no broke filaments. Too lazy at that point to step on the brake, lol. Grape was calling my name and we just had a good cruise.
By the way I did use torque app (for obd port voltage) and handheld meter with the GTP running today. 14.09V at back of alt to alt stud, 13.81 across battery terminals, 13.74 at jumpstart post on fusebox to strut bolt, and 13.7 at the OBD port. I think I am all set. Glad it was just that.
