    Hey guys,

some of you may remember my issue with coolant in my engine, and how it was probably my LIM gasket. To that end, I got the video by Allen K and dubob (great video, I could never have done it without them) and the Chilton repair manual. It has taken me about 3 weeks to open everything up and change it (I have a really demanding flight schedule, and that takes priority). But I'm not sure if the LIM gasket is leaking or not. So please have a look at these pictures and let me know if you guys think its that or maybe a Head Gasket?

I've also sent pics of an old intercooler that I got for free. The fins look burnt, but I was wondering if its still usable and where I install it?

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Cheers.

The coolant ports don't look too pretty, but I also don't see any major failures. Most of the ones I've seen fail are at the bottom of the intake ports, though. Pressure test the IC and, if it holds, clean it and use it.

There is a possibility it could be a head gasket. Try a leak-down test and see if you have a bleeder.

Damn, I was hoping it wouldn't be the head gasket, haha!

Thanks dude, I'll do those tests you mentioned.

    Cheers.

the coolant passages on the gaskets look HORRIBLE! from looking at the gaskets.. I would say yes it is a distinct possibility!

Do the leak down test just to be sure.

After seeing the first gasket up close, I thought he was kidding by asking. It looks awful. Definitely leaking.

Haha, I only wish I were kidding! Unfortunately, a bout of nerves hit me when I was looking at my LIM gaskets because I expected to see some catastrophic failure or a giant hole or something.

Ok, I'll do that test, and change the gaskets. thanks very much guys!

PS. Any thoughts on that intercooler?

I would pressurize the core it to check for leaks as well. if there are none. I dont see why it wouldnt be bad to use. I think it would be benificial.

just slap that in between the LIM, and blower...

Those LIM gaskets are definitely shot! Replace them with non-plastic versions (aluminum ones are so much better).

Also, before you put stuff back together, remove the alternator and alternator bracket, it'll make the reinstall of the LIM much easier. Also, pour a quart or two of cheap oil down the lifter valley to wash that coolant out and do an oil change after 500 miles or sooner.

Glad the video helped......I actually would like to do another one with even more detail. There are a lot of little tidbits that were missed in the editing.
