Yes, I think so.
I had a set of those retainers once, they fit terrible.

unfortunately they are the only retainers i can find in stock. ZZP is sold out .

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
Got zzp to change my order to the XPZ cam. I figure if im going to build an m90, might as well go all out. Not sure there is anything left for me to do power wise on it in addition to what i have planned.
Gen 5 SC
2.55 pulley
Meth
Whatever timing i can run without knock
e85
xpz cam
ported heads
136# springs (or the crow cams 150s)
N* TB
FSIC
80# injectors

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
Called the machine shop my dad uses for his v8 builds, and qas quoted 100 bucks to d o the valve guides and spring seats (if i go Crow springs) It would cost me more than that to buy the tools from Comp .
-
Re: Planning my mods, need advice
If you aren't going to rev it high, I'd just stick with the 136# springs.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
the only thing I could see you adding is a nitrous kit, but i think you already said you weren't planning on running that. looks like a solid build. any plans for the transmission at the moment?

Plans yes, funds no. The money i had set aside for trans stuff is going to doing the cam the right way. When it was a VS cam, i didnt need springs, head work etc.
Plan is to slap an input shaft, GXP chains, in a JY trans.

You'll need 150's then.

Probably going to do the crow cam 150s theyre like 120 bucks cheaper than the comps, and machining to fit them is cheaper than the price difference.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
Alright folks,
Help me pick my springs. On the table are:
Crow Cams 150
Pros: 80 bucks on closeout pricing Proper strength for an XPZ
Cons: require machining of the spring seats.
Manley 150 springs
Pros: no machining, not as expensive as comp cams or PAC, probably work better with Manley retainers i ordered (only ones in stock)
Cons twice the price of the crow springs.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
I ran/run Manley 150's on both my xpz builds and haven't had any problems with them. Personally, I'm not fond of comp or crow springs because of all the breakage I've seen. PAC is probably the best.

Ill probably just go that route then.
What kind of shift points did you run? Seems like power band peak is somewhere around 6500.
-
Re: Planning my mods, need advice
The 1st one was pretty conservative...I kept shifts around 6k. My current one, I've got transmission problems, but I've taken it to 6700 and power isn't falling off at that point yet.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
maybe check into the PAC 1218's. they are really popular with the gen 3/4 LS guys, so they should work for these too.

Looks like theyre 130s , I think ive been told that i need 150s if i plan to run the cam out to the top of the power band at 6500.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
I have decided on the manley 150s. The question is, do i need to upgrade to the 3/8ths pushrod.

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
Hi folks, as i get ready to tear the regal down for the Cam/Meth/trans work, ive begun thinking about my fuel system. Primarily weather or not my injectors are enough.
I have 80# Injectors, and a 340LPH pump from AEM. Now under normal circumstances i would expect this to be overkill, but im on e85.
Do i have enough fueling to run the XPZ cam to 6500, along with METH, and a 2.5 inch pulley on the gen 5?

Re: Planning my mods, need advice
Yes, I'm running 80's on e85 and I have plenty of headroom.
