Hello all. Appreciate any help. My mechanic apparently doesn't have access to Alldata, or something, he can't pull info on a U1301. There used to be a link here to another site where you could access the service manuals. Anybody have that site or know what the code means? The engine just stopped running on the way to work today. It'd fire while cranking but then cut out when you left go of the switch. After it sat about half an hour it started, rand, idled rough suddenly, just for a few seconds, then ran smoothly, I moved it so the hook could get it; my buddy hasn't had any problems with it at the garage. Almost like a shot of bad gas, except for the cranking-fire/no-run condition.

On a related note, a 2003 GTP Special edition (big spoiler, etc) blue-black metallic, 187K may be up for sale soon! Just no time to keep this car the way I'd like to keep it. But regular Amsoil changes, etc, includingin the supercharger, LIM gasket changed at about 120K with a Fel-Pro.

Thanks to any who could help, I know I'm a very infrequent poster...

From a quick search it looks like a communication code between modules/computers and battery power. I would make sure the battery cables are good, the computer wire harness is okay and fully plugged in. Would be worthwhile to check the igntion switch wiring as well.

Thanks, that makes sense. I hope it isn't moisture related, those can be pure frustration in a bottle.

Update: the checks suggested above were made, as well as checking charging system output and battery condition. The battery was indeed old and a little low in the cells (none exposed), so we replaced it. Drove home fine; despite heavy dewfall it drove to work fine - 36 miles through Pittsburgh, good mix of city/highway.

Coming home was a nightmare. I set the cruise at 60; all of a sudden on a downshift it started bucking and surging, boost went to full, rpms up to about 3500. I disengaged cruise, cut the fan, the radio, etc. Things settled down but it was still indicating boost when it shouldn't (low load/coasting downhill). Then in stop and go traffic it stalled four or five times. As long as I kept moving it was fine, though occasionally bucking a little, and engine management seemed off - rpms were too high, boots indications, it just wasn't running right. Near home is a short, steep climb. I got it rolling good and wound it out. Got it over the top, and coasted down the other side, seemed ok - then on the 2 mile level stretch home thought I was going to leave parts on the road. All kinds of clunking and banging, the engine was laboring to go 30 mph, boost to 75%, and I thought from where the sounds coming from that either my rear differential was going to pieces or I was loosing the u-joints on the driveshaft - Until I thought, "Hey, Ickabod, this thing is front wheel drive!" There was a distinct smell of some kind of hot gear lube or hydraulic fluid.

After dinner, started it up, shifted through the gears and checked the tranny fluid. It was full, still quite hot, and it smelled "fumy" - not burnt, but giving off fumes. Checked alternator output, a little over 14 volts. Idling smooth. Engine oil just fine, recently changed. Ran it up to 4000 rpm , sounded great up to 4K, at which point it coughed - did this a couple of times. Ok, it probably needs a set of plugs and wires, and the ignition modules are original too, I believe. Put it in drive and ran it up to 3000 rpm against the brakes. Again, sounded good, no boost indicated.

So what the heck? A confluence of engine controls and possibly a tranny issue with the lock-up torque converter? Wifey wants it gone, so...

    Thanks all!

Tom, I am still driving the Limited Edition GTP that you sold me. It is my new daily driver, and I am getting it fixed up well enough to take to local car cruises. Total mileage is at 192,000 now.
I will have to stop by sometime, but you may not recognize your former Limited GTP, the black sapphire paint is buffed out and small scrapes/scratches fixed, and I added items like roof rails, metal grilles, rear window overlays, heads up display, silver dash bezel, gauge pod with Aeroforce Interceptor gauge, supercharger painted blue, catless DP with flowmaster mufflers, and a number of other items.
The issues I was having early on (same problems that you detailed) were addressed by replacing the MAF sensor, MAP sensor, CAT, CPS, vacuum lines, LIM gasket, SC gasket. The bucking/surging issue went away, and the crank/no start condition went away. But I continued to have poor fuel mileage, vacuum leakage and random stalling (only when engine was warmed up) I replaced the PCM, changed a number of items in the tune, and the GTP has been running strong as ever.
