Hello again everyone! I recently replaced the LIM and the sending unit for the thermostat in my car and left the battery unplugged to reset the PCM, but on my drive home from my shop today, the car felt like it was hitting a bump with the front end when I was accelerating and under boost. The temperature gague was also very high, but when I used a laser temperature reader, the temperature of the block and thermostat was about 180f. The cooling fans are also off, so the car isn't overheating.

I guess my question is would having a bad coolant temp sending unit affect the car's performance? Like if the car thinks it's overheating, will it limit power? Also, is there a relearn procedure I have to perform after removing power from the pcm for an extended time?

check your spark plug wires, sounds like you got one crossed up. thats a misfire your feeling i bet.

and new temp senors are know to be shot new in the box, might need anther one. and you sure you bled all the air out?

The part that is confusing is that it doesn't happen all the time, though, and I'm not seeing misfires on my scantool...I made sure to bleed the air from the little screw on top of the thermostat and I made sure everything was full, so that shouldn't be the problem.

As for the coolant temp sending unit, I'll have to drop by Napa tomorrow, sounds like.

im guessing you had a code before the lim job? if so what was it?

It was running lean, and spraying the LIM caused the idle to jump.

was it doing this stuttering before the lim job?

Nope, that's the part I can't figure out. Thats why I was thinking maybe there was a PCM relearn procedure or the indicated coolant temp affects it.

im back to a crossed plug wire then, take 5 minutes and double check em. these engines will run ok with one crossed up, then miss when on the gas.

OK, I checked out the wires and they all look to be wired up correctly. I just scanned it and my MIL is off, but the following codes are stored: P0137, P0140, P0300, P1380.

A code P0137 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
    Faulty o2 sensor
Exhaust leak near the rear sensor
    Plugged catalyst
Short to voltage on O2 signal circuit
High resistance or open on O2 signal circuit

Engine running very rich or lean
    Engine misfire condition
Fuel pressure very high or low - fuel pump or pressure regulator

The causes for a P0140 code are fairly few. They could be any of the following:
Shorted heater circuit in O2 sensor. (Usually requires replacement of heater circuit fuse in fuse block also)
Shorted signal circuit in O2 sensor
Melting of harness connector or wiring due to contact with exhaust system
Water intrusion in harness connector or PCM connector
    Bad PCM

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires Faulty coil (pack)
    Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    Faulty fuel injector(s)
    Burned exhaust valve
    Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    Stuck/blocked/leaking EGR valve / passages
    Faulty camshaft position sensor
    Defective computer

If the P1380 code is set with other codes, repair other codes first and then clear the code.

There seems to be a common theme here...

check fuse # 22 iirc, its marked "ign" its your o2 and maf fuse.

if the fuse is good, make sure the o2 is plugged in. its plug is on the middle bracket.

OK, sorry it took so long for an update, I checked the IGN fuse and it was good. The o2 sensor was connected, but when I brought up the fuel trims, they looked kind of funny and i noticed they were lagging a bit when I would jump on the throttle, so maybe that is bad. Is there any more testing I can do on the o2 sensor to make sure it's that or is it one of those things that if it works fine when it's replaced, it was that?
