removing rough casting from LIM l32

Scored a new gen5 to put on my car and I also grab it's Lim while at the junkyard. For some reason I decided that this go around, after Im done sanding polishing the blower case that I wanted to do the same to the Lim. And I'm about half way done doing that job now and it hit me like whoa! Should I even be doing this to the lim ? Would this mess anything up? So I search the web and I found info about air turbulence which I understand now . But when I get on here I find nothing about polishing the Lim out!!! So could u fine knowledgeable folks enlighten me!? Can removing the rough casting out of the Lim be done or am I about to cause myself a new problem?

Removing the rough casting finish wont hurt anything but maybe your hands and arms from all the labor needed, not to mention cost of materials and tools.
Just dont change the size or shape of any of the ports.

Agreed. It won't hurt anything, but don't do more than smooth it out and polish. The runners are so short though, you probably won't see any gains unless you ported, polished, and volume matched the chambers, and then probably not much. I'd say it'd be less than 5whp at 6000 rpm if anything.

you can port the runners, but it's going to cause more turbulence if your heads aren't ported. one thing you could do is make a knife edge out of the bottom bar that runs down the middle. it is a lot of work to smooth everything out.

Don't polish. Just smooth it. There really aren't much for gains though. You'll maybe gain a couple hp with all this work.

Thanks guys I'm definitely going to do all y'all said and it's cool I kinda figured it wasn't going to gain if any hp but ill enjoy the view of it until it's time to bolt it on lololol

Thats a great idea about making a knifes edge of the split! Do you think there's alot of metal over the coolant path underneath the split? I'd hate to work my way into that area.
