Noticed after sitting at a light when I took off smoke came from the back noticed it probably 3 times over 2 months. Got back and parked no smoke while driving or when you get on it then I let it idle for a couple min and hit the gas and it smoked. I had ZZP valve seals installed. Kinda wishing I went felpro now.

I wouldn't think the motor is hurt because it doesn't smoke constantly?

Guess what ZZP valve seals are... yup, they are.

You could pull the valve covers and look to see if all your seals are still in place. In theory.. you might be able to reseat a seal if it's up a bit without pulling the spring.

I've put on Felpro, ZZP, crap brand from Advance and Rockauto. When I first found out I had every exhaust seal pop off.

I haven't pulled my covers in over a year but I'm assuming it's #4 in the back since that's the one that happened last time. it might be how my PCV was setup. I had it blocked on the Gen V and on the Tb on the back end. I have since fixed that but haven't changed the seal yet.

Mine still puffs every now and then. Probably burn a quart of oil in between changes. Not enough for me to care.

Yeah my PCV should be fully working. Ed's TB adapater with the PCV port on the adapter so it should be working. I might replace the valve regardless anyway to be sure.

Consuming oil? How do you know the smoke was oil? What about coolant? Losing any?
I'd Compression test if losing oil...

    But anyways.

    Ryan's car did that.

The seats weren't installed correctly or flush.

Had to redo them. Pumped up the cylinder with an air compressor and used a VSR tool to obviously remove the spring/retainer and swapped out the seals for Felpro's.

Kyle, next time go with Victor Reinz valve seals. Their intake and exhaust valve seals are different and match OE spec. Other companies use generic spec BS cause they don't wanna make 2 different seals because want to reduce cost.

Remember, the Dana Corp, who owns Victor Reinz, re-designed the LIM gaskets for the 3800, and they are called the AC Delco metal/aluminum gaskets.

Vic Reinz makes awesome gaskets for so many motors. Yes, everybody believes feel-pro is god cause they make gaskets for every motor but not everything they make is good or higher quality.

I forgot about vic gaskets, I'll have to look into those.

Luckily my mom is giving me her old car so I can drive something else while I take slowkar to Smuts house to get fixed.

Also, when you install the valve seals, don't push too hard.

On the fel pro's ... which come with an install sleeve so you don't mess them up going over the valve stem, I use a 1/4" 10mm socket to drive them and tap lightly with a rubber mallet.

I ordered a pair of orange Fel-Pro's like that off RockAuto, and they were horrible. They were so loose that you could see a physical gap between the seal and valve stem. I bought a different pair from Advance Auto I believe, and they were blue and fit perfect.

    God dammit lol
I was kinda surprised they weren't blue. I'll have dan try these if they don't look like they work I'll have to get another brand. I was gonna have him try to reseat a seal if one came up

The victor reins are tighter going on and sit a bit higher on the pedestal. Is all good unless you're going crazy lift. The Blue ones are the Viton Seals.

I have 1.9 rockers if it matters, I'm gonna order some VR ones. Those felpros were listed as the blue ones and with rockauto ****ty return thing it's not worth trying to get my money back.

Before I email them anyone know the difference between the two VR ones besides the intake/exhaust obviously.

Oh I'm dumbass I'm pretty sure it's a set vs each. It shows they are made of FKM but I think a quick Google shows that's another term for viton

BTW the orange ones are still Viton according to the box. I don't think the color directly dictates material tho. Got another set ordered just in case tho of the VR
