Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
i have super old speed daddy's. i welded a 20 dollar dual wall ebay flex on and a ebay 50 dollar hi flow cat, no rtv used at all. used the stock metal gaskets, installed them 2 times no leaks. dont see a issue really other then the flex will wear out and leak one day.
moving the o2 bung is worth doing as well, it will hit the fire wall for sure.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Ya there's no point in wasting money on a plog downpipe setup when for the same price if not a little cheaper you can have headers that will outflow anything

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
plog's been on back order for how long now? are they even in stock again yet? last batch they had a tard making them, and they didnt seal, flange was warped or something like that .
im on the F zzp train. buy headers lol
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Speed daddy headers look nice. I can't attest to how they fit. The pacesetters have the larger primaries but that probably doesn't matter unless you go very deep in the mods. For $200 speed daddy's look worth it.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
funny but i got mine used, deal was 100 bucks and i remove em from the sellers car. every bolt was about finger tight, all slip joints had the sd U clamps, and i could see all the black soot from where all the leaks were. and they leaked all over the place. i used band clamps and stock bolts and no leaks. ;)
a lot of it comes down to installer error.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Ya speed daddy's for the win as long as your not a moron and do all the recommended things.

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Are the more expensive headers worth the money? I can't work on my GTP during the week and it's my daily. Having to deal with exhaust leaks would be a challenge.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
if you think 800 bucks is acceptable, go for it.
and your in ca, you should be looking at TOG headers really, they are legal in ca. you just need to use your factory cat, like cut the cat to use the 3 inch dp pipe.
you might be the one of the years when they stopped popping the hood and get by with the speed daddys

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
There was a company that took a l67 making right around 300hp on stock manifolds. They installed ebay headers and did before/after dynos. They gained about 4hp from the headers. Pretty obvious stock manifolds are nowhere near a restriction.
Most headers will leak. There might be a few that got lucky, but don't think that is the norm, or anywhere close to it.
I have experience with a lot of different brands of headers on these cars. If you really want to put headers on a daily driver, a set of togs or s&s would be your best bet.

Damn GTP Head Gasket Leak. Where'd my antifreeze go?! Hello $1200 dollar mechanic fix.

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Look eBay headers in my opinion are great for the price obviously if you have money to blow go spend 800$ on some togs but the fact is with the 600$ you save on headers alone you could be running a brand new ss intercooler maybe even find a used fsic for that price. That's why to me it's not worth it.
Stock manifolds may not be super restrictive while stock but once you start adding more boost they are restrictive. Just because a dyno claims 4hp gain doesn't mean sh*t headers arent for the gains themselves it's like an intercooler. You don't just slap an intercooler on and wan 40whp. No it's by being able to now raise the boost that gives you the power. Same with headers. Better flow out the exaust means you can stuff more air in the intake which = you guessed it! More HP!!

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Put a 3.0 on a stock car. Then add headers. Very little if any gains.
Instead of headers, install an intercooler. Huge gains.
To find a huge restriction, you have to look both ways.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
If you put a 3.0 on a stock car youd have no engine left. The headers are to reduce knock and run more boost an intercooler would be very nice but there is still a huge benefit of headers once your running more boost then stock

Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
Most motors will run awhile, even with severe knock.
I'm all ears to the benefits with headers. I haven't seen any documented power gains or consistent kr reduction.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
I think the nitrous is making the guy a retard, ran speed daddy headers, not a ****ing leak ONCE. Run a 3.0 on a motor and your motors done.
In what stock motor is headers a 50whp bolt on? 300hp isnt **** of anything power wise so who cares?
Headers is a supporting mod and looks cool, do it, run smaller pulley then down the line you can add more mods as you please.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
You guys are missing the point. It's not about being able to run a 3.0 pulley on a stock motor.
Running a pulley that size exposes the true reason why kr is produced. The bandaid fixes don't work as far as fixing it. Only will truly addressing the problem actually help.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
The real problem is 8° from the factory.
E85 is the easiest fix of them all.
Re: 2004 grand prix gtp headers
You can search this section for stock pulley cars with headers that are still fighting kr...that should be evidence enough that they are not a supporting mod.
