Hi all. I'm new here. And yes I'm a female. I like drag racing so I decided to start out on a GTP 3.8L.
My question is this...... Do you necessarily need booster oil or can you use regular Mobil 1? I've seen different threads saying you can use both. But I want to be sure. Thanks. And please don't rip my head off. This is my first "fast car". 🏁💋

    That's what I was thinking.

I've never used synthetic and never had a problem changing every 3k.

But yes mobile 1 will be good to use.

I'm guessing you mean supercharger oil?

If so, then yes, you need to use the AcDelco supercharger oil that smells really terrible.

Anything else won't keep the snout seals and bearings/coupler from degrading and leaking or wearing out.

    And welcome to the forum.

New supercharger oil smells fine. USED supercharger oil smells like it came out of an animal that ate something dead.

In a pinch, you can use mobile 1 without issue. I ran it for awhile without any problems.

But, you should use supercharger oil.

Even new it still has a bit of funk to it... But the old stuff will stay in your nose for days.

Not regular Mobil 1, must be full synthetic 5w30, and not sure it it pertains to the Gen V/L32 or just the GenIII/L67

    Service manual says:

This bulletin is an advisory concerning required maintenance of the supercharger oil level on the 3800 (L67) engine. The procedure for checking the oil level is also included.
The oil level should be maintained to the bottom of the plug threads. Do not use petroleum based oil. When adding oil use only GM P/N 12345982 synthetic oil. Failure to do so may cause supercharger failure.
GMCL dealers use 5W-30 synthetic oil (eg. Mobil 1)
NAES dealers use GM P/N 12345982 (4oz/1 20ml container of synthetic oil)

Be Nice Spike, shes new. This forum has a ton of information on it. More than likely if you think it, it has been asked. Here is a good start to learn the basic Mods of the 3800. http://www.grandprixforums.net/threa...00-Powered-Car!!

As for pulley size it depends on what mods you currently have and where you want to take it. Some good places for performance upgrades are

Keep the stock pulley, install headers instead.

Or pulley down, but make sure you have a precise and kr free tune.
