mysterious exhaust leak

I had a mechanic look at my car the other day and he said I had an exhaust leak. I have felt all around for a leak but can't find anything. I checked all the nuts and bolts on the headers and they are tight. I did tighten the clamps on the crossover, but it was only a small amount, shouldn't have been enough to cause a leak. I saw the mechanic again today, and he said he hoped it wasn't a valve issue.

I just switched to E85, and I'm wondering if that could cause a sound like an exhaust leak. I don't see how it would, but I'm not a genius.

Use a stethoscope to hear for the leaks, it could be something you can hear with the naked ear at idle.

I wonder if a medical stethoscope is any different than an automotive stethoscope. I started lifting weights with a doctor and a dentist, so I could ask and see if either one has one I can borrow

Which headers are you running? And what exhaust?

SD headers, magnaflow cat converter and stock catback

Is the flex or v-band leaking?

I didn't think about checking the flex. I'm using good solid clamps, and I checked there so that shouldn't be it either. I'll drive the car up on the ramps and see if I can feel along the flex

Check the vband while you're there too. Pretty much anywhere a pipe connects to another, I've seen them leak.

Sea foam it. Found I had a leak in my zzp tog doe pipe behind the steel braided mesh. They replaced it for free

Here is what I don't get, you take it to a mechanic and he says you have a leak yet you are still searching for said leak.

Why would this guy not be able to tell you where it was leaking from?? What kind of guy would just tell someone "hey man, you have a leak in the exhaust", then not even tell them exactly where the leak is from????


It may be more understandable if you were in for something completely unrelated but even if I was working on someones car I'm not sure I'd even mention it if they didn't seem to care about an issue that was clearly there.

the mechanic was looking at something completely different, and to get an actual diagnoses, I probably would have had to pay the 110 dollars an hour the dealership charges.

I'll try the seafoam once I get the new snout on the car, also considering the smoker method.

I have a leak where my dp connects to the catback. It's tiny to the point I can't hear it with a stethoscope at idle. I know this because the exhaust shop that put it in told me but can't feel it either. My exhaust also drips water at the connection after the res but they never mentioned a leak there. I'm going to get it all welded up after I get my togs on.
