So how do you get the rack and pinion end of these hoses off ? Do you have to drop the subframe or is there another easier way to get at them. I can not see a way from under the car..

dropping the back of the frame 2 inches will help, you need a 18 mm wrench to get them off. if your changing the one thats higher up, you need to take the lower one off first, or you'll never get the other one off.

I used a stubby 18mm and was able to get to it by going behind the engine up top, but I have small hands. Then pull it out the passenger side wheel well.

    i wear 3 x gloves lol

careful putting the new line nut on that you dont cross thread it. if it wont go, i turn the nut backwards feeling for the nut to click, ( now the two will be ready to mesh together) then try to get it to thread with a light wiggle. if its not turning in by fingers only for a few turns, stop, start over.

    Thanks for the pointers guys.
I will try from the top with the stubby 18mm first... But it looks tight in there.
If I have to drop the subframe any pointers ?
4x4 under the two arms coming off the back of it, then lower it on a floorjack? [ I will be under the
car on my back eventually, no lift ]. What torque is on those 2 big bolts ? How difficult to line it back
up when you jack it back up ? Anything to avoid snagging or ripping / pulling ? Thanks again !!!!

put a floor jack under the middle rear of the frame, then then back the two rear sub frame bolts out about 2 inches, the lower the jac to the bolts, leaving the weight on the jack.

when done, just jack the frame back up and make the bolts tight.

oh, and you need the car on jack stands under the rockers if they are not rotted out. i put the jack under the middle of the front part of the frame, then jack it up as high as it will go, then put the j/s under the car.

    Scottydoggs, Thanks.
Rockers on this one are pretty bad.... NY car in Cali now, looks real bad compared to the true Cali cars which are typically rust free underneath, just dusty and/or greasy ...
Well, what we have done so far is avoid lowering the subframe, we cut the 2 lines at the fittings from underneath and removed the fittings with a universal and long extension and racket from above.. They were rusted on pretty good, so the stubby wrench from above did not have enough ummph ... They are out, now we just need to make sure we put the new ones in in the right ports there....
