Re: Bad water pump?
sure fill it up again, id make sure its leaking from the cover for sure before just doing it. if you have break cleaner, spray down the whole area, it will dry it up and make it all dull looking, once it leaks the new wet spot is the issue.
it does happen time to time. its not super common tho.

Re: Bad water pump?
dont use that crap, it wont work, and it will gum up the rest of the coolant system.

Re: Bad water pump?
I know! Just have not done one of these before so just a little hesitant. I'm sure it will go ok.

its not that bad really. the balancer is the worst part of it.

iirc it was orange, what you want is one thats ok with oil contact.

Re: Bad water pump?
Got the crank bolt loose this am before work. Now just have to get the puller and gasket kit.
What's involved with a case relearn? I have the battery un-hooked so is that good enough or do you need a tech 2? Wonder if I should just replace the crank sensor while I'm in there? AC Delco?

Re: Bad water pump?
the crank learn is a coin toss, 50/50 shot you "need" one. if the cel comes on for it you need it done. no cel motor on.
if its running crappy, and no cel, get the crank learn done tho.
no idea what state your in, but theres locals all over the country with tuners that can do it, if lucky you can find one of us in your back yard. or hit up your local gas stations, dealership is the last place you call. thy will charge the most for this simple thing.
what sucks is it takes longer to set up the scanner then it does to do the crank learn. its as simple as flooring it in park. done.

Re: Bad water pump?
I can get a tech 2 if that's what it needs. Or does it have to be a tuner. I'm in MN twin cities and south mostly

tech 2 is your new best friend then, it will do it.

Re: Bad water pump?
Trying to anticipate issues. Do I have to take any oil pan bolts out to get the cover off? If so does the mount have to come off?

Re: Bad water pump?
all pan to cover bolts should be in the clear. once the balancer is off you can see them better.

Re: Bad water pump?
Ok. That would be great

Re: Bad water pump?
What's a good size of RTV bead to use on that gasket when I get there?

Re: Bad water pump?
thin smear, like 1 mm thick or so. that lower area likes to leak oil, why you need the rtv on both sides of the gasket, and along the old pan gasket.

Re: Bad water pump?
Ok. Thanks again. Hoping to get into it around 5:30.

Re: Bad water pump?
stuff some paper towels or rags in the oil pan and over the chain there and get to cleaning. that sure is blown out good.
